Mane to the left of me, Salah to the right, here I am, stuck in the middle Firmino

Saw this clip of Mane in training (great to see him back), and noticeably he's playing on the left and cutting in on his right foot, something a lot of us expected to see with Salah doing the inverse on the right. It's going to be a scintillating attacking trio this season isn't it? Our team has a lot of issues, but I genuinely think this attacking three is going to take the piss, especially with Coutinho and Lallana in support. Oh, and lets not make this about Firmino's goal output, it's painfully obvious by now what he brings to the team, and what he doesn't.

Since I can't doublelike I liked both your posts. Wonderful that someone points out that we should not make it a goalreturn thread as I expect it to be only about that before it reaches second page ;-)

He really fucked a potential assist at the end of that clip though.

This is what we bough Salah for. As I said when we were lining Salah up, the idea of the pair of them running defences ragged makes me almost feel sorry for the panting defenders strewn around the pitch catching their breath.

Only issue is if and when one of those wide players gets injured/burnt out we don't have anyone else to carry that kind of threat.

FFS you are unremittingly negative! We only had ONE such player last year. We now have two and you still complain. We may also hang onto Kent who has pace to burn out wide. For the love of Jehovah! Should we buy twelve of these kinds of player?

This is definitely a concern, and I think we'll definitely see it happen at some point during the season.

One would hope Origi really makes up for his poor season last year, and rediscovers some of his 15/16 form. Alternatively, it would be nice if one of Kent or Ojo could push on and really stake a claim for a first team slot.

I'm not particularly optimistic on either count though. We'll need to add another pacy attacker to our squad come next summer.

This issue could be greatly mitigated if we had a pair of quality full-backs, but I'm not sure that's a particular strength area for us.

Ojo is definitely on his way (loan). Not taken to Germany and has 4 clubs lines up for him (Fulham, Derby, Villa and Middlesbro). Hope he chooses Fulham. Kent is getting games though and may well make the squad at this rate (didn't he play well recently and Klopp make a special mention of him) ?

We can't get Keita or VVD, and you think we'd get Dembele?

My default position is never sell our good players. We're utterly shit at replacing them.

Who says we can't get VVD and Keita? I happen to think we'll get both. And I have repeatedly said I wouldn't sell Coutinho. But if we felt that we had to, perhaps you think we should not attempt to replace him with top quality? FFS.

I'm just ranting at our ineptitude. We won't get both VVD and Keita.

At the rate at which we're going, I'd be surprised if we get even one of them.

So ... we should never buy good players, because if they get injured we have a significant quality deficit; if we restrict ourselves to signing mediocrity we will never have that problem.

A 150m+ net spend seems a bit unrealistic to me

Nope, we just need more depth which I've been saying all along because as it is it's only a matter of time before the cracks appear again for this squad

None of them are exactly a Mane (or Salah) clone, but Coutinho, Ings, Sturridge, Origi, Solanke, Lallana etc can each provide some kind of goal threat from the wing. For now I think we're OK – although to be fair we won't know for sure until a few months into the season. I am intrigued how Sturridge looks on the right wing in training.

True however I think there were more than enough games last year when either Mane wasn't playing or wasn't at his best that we really lacked that sheer pace mixed with ability that none of the above have.

With the CL games on top of what we had last season I just don't see this squad coping with our heavy metal style for very long.

Hopefully I'm wrong.

For 10 points can anyone tell me why we didn't have much depth last season ?

Yes !! 10 points to the whole of The Kop !!

Can anybody tell the lyrically challenged where does the title reference come from?
I would have thought that thanks to tarantino & reservoir dogs, that those lyrics would have been inedibly burned onto everyone's psyches by now.

I cannot hear that song without picturing a psychotic Michael Madsen holding a blade.
