Liverpool FC confident of signing Barcelona's Cristian Tello and Real Madrid's Nuri Sahin on loan

LIVERPOOL FC are hopeful of clinching the signings of Nuri Sahin and Cristian Tello this week as Brendan Rodgers’ summer rebuild at Anfield gathers pace.
The duo would move to Merseyside on season-long loan deals, with Rodgers confident the signings can be clinched before the Reds open their Premier League campaign at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
Liverpool believe they have fended off interest from both Tottenham and Arsenal to sign Real Madrid midfielder Sahin.
The Turkish international has been told he is free to leave the club by Real boss Jose Mourinho and, having spoken to ex-Reds star Xabi Alonso, has informed Rodgers of his desire to move to Merseyside.
Liverpool aim to complete the formalities over the next 48 hours, and could introduce the 23-year-old to his new teammates this weekend.
The deal for Barcelona winger Tello should also go through shortly, with managing director Ian Ayre having flown to Spain to finalise negotiations.
The 21-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season at Camp Nou last season, making 22 appearances under Pep Guardiola, and scoring seven times.

But with Guardiola having left, Tello has been informed by new Barca boss Tito Vilanova that first-team opportunities will be limited this season.
He was officially listed as a ‘B’ team player when the Catalans announced their squad for the upcoming campaign.
Barcelona are likely to offer a new contract to the Spanish Olympic Games star, but they will be happy to assist the youngster’s development by allowing him to move to Merseyside on loan for the season.
Liverpool believe Tello’s pace, eye for goal and ability to play on either wing make him an ideal addition to a squad short on depth in wide areas.
Rodgers is eager to add depth to a squad that finished eighth last season, and has already signed both Fabio Borini and Joe Allen.
He said: “The reality is the club probably lacked depth last year. We need to make a few signings just to get back those numbers.
“I believe we will do. But they are specific targets we are after and I believe when we get those players in they will make a difference for us.
“Normally with good players, the transfer is complex.
"They are never easy.
“There’s no doubt we have work to do.
"We need to improve the group and we need to get some players in.
“We need to do that sooner rather than later.”
The arrival of Sahin, another central midfield player, in particular, could prompt a reshuffle of Rodgers’ squad.
He has already signed Joe Allen to play in that area, and has Lucas Leiva and Steven Gerrard fit and available, with Jay Spearing in reserve.
Jonjo Shelvey started the Europa League second-leg win over FC Gomel last week, with Jordan Henderson having begun the first leg in Belarus.
They expect to tie defender Martin Skrtel down to a new long-term contract soon, and will press on with plans to commit Daniel Agger to a similar deal, even in light of persistent interest from Manchester City.

Tello could still sign a new contract with Barca AND go on loan. Hasn't he already been told he'll be in the B team this season? There's nothing wrong with Barca securing the short term future of an asset and putting themselves in a stronger position with him for next year, either in terms of keeping him or selling him on.

As for Gerrard playing on the right, it's not going to happen. What I would say is that maybe Tello/Sahin is an alternative to Dempsey. Think about it, Dempsey can play left and can cover Gerrard's position, Tello and Sahin give us depth in those two positions. Gerrard will play where he normally plays, or the deeper role, he'll be rested, rotated, injured, so we'll need cover. For the three midfield slots we'll have Shelvey, Gerrard, Allen, Lucas and Hendo. Adam will go, Spearing will either be happy for a season playing a next to nothing role or will also go, either on loan or permanently. If we loan Sahin that adds further depth to that and gives us sufficient ability in the absence of Gerrard. Our front three will then be from a choice of Suarez, Borini, Tello (if he comes), Sterling, Downing, and Cole & Caroll if they stay. That's good strength in depth for midfield and attack IMO.

As Mark says this would make good sense and more or less complete our squad. What really needs to be done then is to ship out a few players. Adam, Spearing and Cole would be my bets. However with the crazy salaries two of them are on it is going to cost us a very golden handshake.

I really really hope, for the 3rd time, that we have buy clauses inserted ... If they perform well, and/or fall in love with the club, let's keep 'em both.

That's more quality in reserve than we've had in a longtime really, maybe it's just the set up that makes it look that way, but it's alot more rosier than it has been in years in terms of not worrying as much if one of our better players is unavailable. It's better than relying the N'Gog's, Voronin's and Biscan's off the World.

And the real funny thing is, I bet the players are getting paid less than those guys were.

Who is this 'Srijandeep Das @jeremy_LFC' fellow? Reliable? Please say he's reliable. I'm all 'giddy school-girl' over Sahin.

If Sahin is the kind of guy that would take Alonsos word that Liveprool is a better destination than London, CL and Wengers pass pass pass style, I am quite sure he is the guy to fall in love with the club🙂

I hope he doesn't bail out on us and fuck off to Arsenal, I've got high hopes for this deal, probably even moreso than Borini and Allen (both of whom I'm more than happy about us signing).

No idea, I've been following him for a few months and he generally seems to have an idea or what's going on. I think he just gets his information from other tweeters, but it seems to be accurate more than it's not, so don't take his word as gospel, just encouraging noises.

The Echo is saying something similar this morning, so, hopefully, this is something which will actually happen. Finally, we're signing players I actually wanted before we were linked with them. If we can sign him, Tello and maybe Dempsey or, if we sell Carroll, Walcott, I'll be official out of 'negative' mode and into 'hyperbole' mode about the prospects for next season.

Welcome to the site mate, I'd agree with that, amazing what a couple of days can do. We could just as easily hit rock bottom again if a couple of these deals don't come off, but anyway, it's looking promising.

Yep, Allen, Borini, Sahin (loan), Tello (loan) and Dempsey would be a fantastic summer for us, even better if we can get options to buy on those loans.

Welcome btw!

I've got to say though, I know next to nothing about Tello, so it's blind faith aplenty, based on the fact he's a quick attacker who plays for 'them'...... and the song options are infinite.

All the fun of the fan, I guess. Transfer windows are, in general, a real pain in the cock. Unless it goes right, then it's like tachycardic fellatio.

Thanks for the welcome, lads.

So are we getting Sahin? Pretty pleased if so.

We're going to end up with a team of midfielders though.

Two out of Adam, Spearing, Shelvey and Henderson will surely have to go.

Shelvey just signed a new contract and started two competitive games in a row. He ain't going nowhere.
Brendan doesn't seem to rate Henderson, which doesn't worry me at all.
