What's everyones thoughts on the current saga?
Syria has been decimated through an ISIS formed out of a bad Western policy in the Middle East of toppling dictators and creating power vacuums, and on the other side leaving in the dictator so it doesn't then fall to ISIS despite everyone seemingly 100% on the idea he used nerve gas on innocent civilians, so on and so forth
So of the civilians fleeing this country, are they now migrants or refugees? The idea of a refugee undeniably attracts more sympathy than a skiving, conniving migrant who wants to come over and steal all your jobs, a la the situation we currently see in Calais where the media in the UK at least suggest a level of sub-human in a problem of their own doing
If the reasons all these guys abandon their lives in their hometown and split from families etc is due to, in part, a serious short-sightedness in terms of cuts to foreign aid and support of crackpot despots, how much responsibility do these countries have for the lives of loads of innocent people?
It's not like you can just house a shitload of people forever without resources and a long term proposition to sort things out in the homeland so they can return, sure, but how is all this gonna play out?
Most of Europe is playing the poor-sterity card anyway and pretending there's no cash, so if they let in a load of foreigners, the locals they are subjecting to cuts obviously get vexed and demand a fairer deal compared to these guys who can't speak the same language
Where does everyone see this ending up? Someone will have to go like that fat kid from Matilda at a load of humble pie somewhere down the line if each country keeps passing shit on to everyone else, and at some point I figure shit is gonna get real
Ideally, you would just go and kill all the bad guys but it isn't a childrens book. Who blinks first?
