lol at all the NI giving Bradley a top 3 (even though I thought he played well, he wasn’t top 3 for me)
That’s the Mo Salah effect.Do goals tend to skew these results somewhat, and I appreciate that goals are important.
Both Gravenberg and Ekiteke on the score sheet and rated one and two.
Ekiteke stared really strongly and took his goal superbly but had faded considerably by the time he was subbed.
Maybe you could extract how much goals affect the final tally on average

I think you need context to that. They should though, I'm not sure people take it into account enough. Depends on what you consider to be a man of the match, for me, it's the players that had most impact on the result, and 9 times out of ten, that's the players that score, or make goals happen, not the players that are consistent.
I think you need context to that.
A player who scores a tap in and does little else in the game doesn't merit extra recognition extreme, case though that is.
I guess the importance of the goals in a game has an impact on peoples thinking too.
Scoring a banger of a last goal in a rout probably wouldn't have the same impact as if it was the winner, a la Szoboszlai against Arsenal.
I am not trying to downplay the importance of goals obviously but just considering that they might have a disproportionate affect on these motm threads.
Don't start me off on defenders and keepers not being duly recognised for their contributions.😉
Yeah I was just going to mention that last bit. I guess neither VvD nor Ali will ever get MotM again then !I think you need context to that.

More information for @MomoWASright to extract from his dataYes, it does need context, first goals, and goals that put us ahead should have higher impact. If there's two or three defensive players in the top three, then 9 times out of 10 it'll mean we've drawn 0-0 or lost.
I did some analysis on this using last seasons POTS. I think it was line with many debates on here. Salah came top when all he did was score. I’ll dig out what I recorded later today.More information for @MomoWASright to extract from his data

However, he had many games, like earlier this season, where he was not contributing for 89 minutes whereas others were putting in the graft and making chances, preventing the opposition, etc. Mo gets a pen, scores it and get MOTM. It’s not a black and white thing. Winning games isn’t just scoring goals, it’s stopping the opposition too.My point is, if all he did was score, and we won because of those goals, imo he should be number one, or at worst number two, even if he did nothing besides that.

The easiest thing to point to is Gravenberch was voted our second best player last season. He only scored once didn’t he?
It was quite an even spread between scorers and non-scorers.
We had 18 occasions where the first scorer got MOTM. 18 occasions where those who scored didn’t get MOTM. 25 occasions where the MOTM didn’t score which includes 6 times where the keeper got the MOTM.
We had this hypothetical last minute penalty situation against Burnley. Salah tucked it away and came 6th is the scoring out of 7 who had any votes.
Post game, even Dreamy called Salah putrid. I think quite a lot of us recognise how important goals can be but also can see many more aspects of the game.I don't remember that game, but I think this site underestimates how difficult and important goal scoring is.

This is because most on SCM are an appreciative bunch who know where the credit really lies in any one game 😉It was quite an even spread between scorers and non-scorers.

Is that because we have been spoiled with goal scorers over the years?I don't remember that game, but I think this site underestimates how difficult and important goal scoring is.
Well we've only got one GK who's scored so that's a slam dunk and no debate for Ali !Is that because we have been spoiled with goal scorers over the years?
It makes for quite the interesting debate.
Who is most underestimated/overestimated, strikers midfielders, defenders or goalkeepers.
