Define "fine". With their recent history, just being thereabouts isn't going to be enough for them, which will add to the pressure.

Wouldn't disagree about the few months though. All I'm saying is that this *could* be the start of the slide, and that they've landed in this position before after having been successful.
 
At Everton, Moyes was meticulous about his transfer targets. As also detailed by Michael Calvin in his new book on football scouting The Nowhere Men, a "war room" at Everton's Finch Farm training complex was given over to a detailed distillation of targets from all over Europe.

Yeah, right. I guess it was an improvement on Howard Kendall's detailed distillation of whisky, but I bet the best they managed was one bloke in a cubicle reading the Sporting Life!
 
I guess alot will depend on Fergie too. Let's not forget that should Moyes royally fuck up, there's always the minor possibility of Fergie getting dragged into the fold. I certainly wouldn't bet against it. Careful what you wish for an all that.
 
It's a possibility, but at about 72 or older he'd be such a short term move I'm not sure that would do much more than pause the decay. After all, so much of Ginsoak's power came from the sense that there was no end in sight as far as his bullying was concerned. The last time he announced he was going to retire you could see the team start to relax in spite of his ranting. I doubt if he returned the players would stand for his style of management - they'd know they could outlast him.

They'll mount a serious title challenge, finishing in the top 2. At a push 3rd.

One can only hope it's the start of their decline, though. Although, I can't really see it. But it's certainly possible.

My own theory is that Moyes was brought in because no one can follow Fergie. The real successor is the next one, who will be welcomed with open arms, because he'll be so much better than Moyes, and will be cleaning up the mess. He'll be Statesman of the game.

I would not be so sure that this supposition isn't more accurate than you imagine. No-one would want to follow Ferguson as whatever they achieved wouldn't match up ... and that is an aging United squad that badly needs revamping.
