NBA Playoffs

Things are heating up now.

Bulls and Cavs are 2-2. If the Cavs are going to win, it's all on LeBron because of their injuries.

I'm loving Paul Pierce on and off the court at the.moment, and the Wiz are 2-1 up on a sad looking Hawks team.

And the number 1 ranked Warriors are 2-1 down to the Grizzlies - with Tony Allen fucking shit up.

The Clippers seem to be cruising 3-1 up on Harden and the Rockets - Blake looks like he's the new LeBron.

I don't really have a an Nba team (I usually pick the first team I saw live live- which is the Warriors) but I like the D- Rose comeback story so I'm cheering on the Bulls

Watched the Bulls go out meekly in Game 6, which was sad. At least the Clippers choked and let Houston back into the series (and I don't even like the Rockets) so that wasn't so bad.

Doc Rivers, on the Clippers blowing their big 19-point lead and losing Game 6:
“Sometimes you want stuff so bad that you can’t get it because you’re in your own way,” 😀

I don't follow the NBA that closely nowadays; haven't followed the developments for a while now, usually tuning in only for the conference finals and finals. So now that the Bulls and Blazers are out, I suppose I'll be rooting for the Warriors - they look like the only team left that either isn't bland, or doesn't have obnoxious characters. Curry and Thompson look very likeable characters, and hey, Steve Kerr coaches them, so there's the old Bulls connection. They look like they could live and die by the treys though, and that's always a dangerous game in the playoffs.

Good to see the Warriors in the finals after so long. Bloody hell, when Curry is on fire like that, it's just unfair to the opponents - he was so hot in Q4 he totally mind-fucked the Grizzlies and they gave up with a bit over a minute to go, with Gasol on the line shooting two and them facing a 10-point gap.

The Clippers Rockets is going to be great, I think I might try to find a way to watch it

By the Rockets?

I suppose Harden is going to show up sooner or later. If he does it might happen

Well, not sure, to be honest. I just have a hunch that the pressure will get to one team and the game won't be a close one. I think maybe I'd fancy the Clippers' chances better - better all-around team inside and outside. They'll have to watch Crawford and Barnes though. One could go crazy and shoot the team either in or out of the game, and the other could just find himself tossed.

Damn, I just realized this game is going to be played at 3:30am my time. Crap.

By the way, if you're looking for a site with links to the games, this is the one I've been using:

HAHAHAHAHAHA CLIPPERS!!!!!

Hawks vs Cavs
Warriors vs Rockets

Hawks 4-3. Not sure if Lebron has the energy to slug it out this time with Kyrie and Love injured.
Warriors 4-1 Rockets will be exhausted after the series with the Clippers (HAHAHAHHA!) and a well rested Warriors will come out all guns blazing.

Clippers hahahahahha!

Well, I guess I got the idea about the match not being close right. Just not the winner, and I suppose the winning margin wasn't that big. So yeah I got almost everything wrong. 😉

Draft lottery is tmr. WIll be interesting to see if it's 'fixed' and one of the more illustrious teams, e.g. Lakers or Knicks get the number 1 pick. If they go 1-2 everyone will be screaming fix.

I guess it makes sense to dump this here. Not much discussion on the sport so might as well just keep this in a thread.

Chicago Draft Combine 5-on-5 scrimmage.

Am I right in saying the Rockets led all through that game?

I was half watching it but it never really got interesting

Yup Rockets led wire-to-wire.

Some talk in the media about trading Paul for wings, or Griffin for Durant.

Didn't watch the game as it was 3am here. Skimming through the play-by-play on the ESPN site, it looks like it though. I think there was a good double digit lead for most parts and it closed to 3 at one point in the third but then reopened again.

Looking at the box scores, I see the Rockets had 41 free throws as opposed to 17 for the Clippers (31 vs 11 made), and this wasn't a Hack-a-Howard game. Harden made 15 of 18. That's some one-sided free throw shooting there. There wasn't anything in the reports on players or officials complaining that they were jobbed by the refs, so I suppose the Clippers just weren't aggressively attacking the basket. Redick and Crawford were 10-for-30 combined in field goals. So you can't get to the line and you can't shoot straight - that's a killer combo.

Harden draws more fouls than anyone else in the league. There was the odd hacking of Howard - one by Chris Paul was hilarious.

It looked like the Clippers just wore down because of a lack of a bench, the other thing was that Howard was able to defend Blake one on one - Not that It entirely stopped him - just put up enough of a fight not to need double teams which might explain the poor shooting from others not being open enough

Sidenote:

I used to be able to sit through full games long ago but these days, I find that I no longer have the patience for that. Nowadays, the games start getting me interested generally at the start of the 3rd quarter, and then really start catching my attention in the 4th quarter. I can actually sit through a double-digit gap between the teams in the 3rd quarter better than a tight first half with a 2-point gap.

Give each team 80 points and start the 4th quarter.

I must admit that this is the first time I'm actually watching this Hawks team. I have to ask though - how is this sad bunch the no. 1 seed in the East? Teague apart, I can't think of any player whom I saw today that I think I'll remember the name of a week or two later. Looking at their stats from the regular season, I suppose the strength is that they spread the offence better than anyone else and isn't reliant on one or two star players.

You have to go back to 2004 when the Detroit Pistons won with Billups, Hamilton, Prince, Ben and Rasheed Wallace, to see a team with that sort of setup win a title though. That Detroit team played excellent defence though, which I didn't see much evidence of on this Hawks team - well, at least in this game. Okay, so JR Smith might not have a crazy shooting day like this for the rest of the series, but still, it's really hard to get excited by Atlanta. Or did I happen to catch them on a bad day?

Come to think of it - since they traded 'nique way back, have the Hawks ever featured an exciting player in their prime over the years? I haven't really paid much attention to basketball for a fair bit of time (and certainly not the Hawks!) so maybe I'm missing someone.

Joe Johnson was (quite) a good player for the Hawks. Horford's the best player on their present team. Probably the most underrated player in the NBA.

Having said that, agree with your general point - they're not a special team by any stretch of imagination, and it's just indicative of how weak the East is. Cavs should win this on the strength of Lebron alone.

Nah, I'd hate to see that. The Warriors are a fun bunch to watch, and I'm rooting for them this season. I think the Rockets will take Game 3 though.

Hawks are the Spurs of the East this season. Their coach Budenholzer was an assistant on the Spurs to Pop. Their ball movement this season was great and I believe none of their players played more than 30 mins average in the regular season. I also think 4 of their players made it to the All-Star game this year, Teague, Horford, Millsap and Korver. Even though Cavs won Game 1, I think the Hawks will overwhelm them with team basketball this year. JR Smith had the game of his life but I doubt he can replicate it again this series.

However, DeMarre Carroll is injured and he will be a big loss if he is out.

I dislike the Warriors. The Suns were the original run n' gun team, and I don't want a pretender to win the title before them. Hope Lebron wins.

Good thing I'm not a betting man. McHale would've been aghast at that spineless and clueless display by his team. These conference finals have been the broadcasters' and NBA's nightmare so far. Hopefully Atlanta will remember to show up tomorrow for Game 3.

Clean sweep for the Cavs. Fucking pathetic from the Eastern Conference. How can a Conference final end in a clean sweep?
