Pepe Reina insists the thought of leaving Liverpool never entered his mind.

Arsenal and Manchester United had been monitoring the highly-rated goalkeeper amidst fears at Anfield that he would leave due to discontent with the Reds' plight, both on and off the pitch.

But Fenway Sports Group's arrival as owners coupled with the return of Kenny Dalglish has seen Liverpool's fortunes take a significant upturn and, speaking in his native Spain, Reina reiterated his commitment to the club and contentment with life on Merseyside.

"I am happy at Liverpool," he told MARCA.

"It is true we have had a great end to the year, but we have to keep growing.

"I am very happy and so is my family. I've never wanted to go"

I think you're with me on this one gene 😉

Of course not. Not for a second...

Anyway, I like Pepe very much and he's a top keeper. I'll gladly have him with us for the rest of his career.
All forgiven, Pepe!

There must be more than one bloke apart from Torres saying that same stuff, no? If Xabi didn't, who is it? *scratch head*

To be fair.. i think most the lads say they love being in Liverpool and see their long term future here.. doesnt mean they are lying..

i loved my last job at one point... it ended up being completely shit.

PEPE REINA will retain his £20million Anfield exit clause, despite pledging his future to Liverpool for another season.

Reina ended speculation about a possible summer move to Arsenal or Manchester United after talks with the club's director of football Damien Comolli.

But there have been no attempts to remove the price tag that would enable the keeper to go if his valuation is met.

Reina said this week he had never thought of leaving but the club had grave concerns he would follow Fernando Torres out of Anfield before Kenny Dalglish steadied the ship.

They agreed to an exit clause a year ago to help them resist bids for the 28-year-old Spaniard.

Arsenal showed no inclination to pay such a large fee and £80,000 a week for a goalkeeper, while Reina would not wish to risk the wrath of the Kop fans by joining United.

What is the point of the new deal if that clause stays in? Ridiculous.

He's not getting a new deal.

Would you?

Look, it's common knowledge Torres was made a number of promises about players we would sign & where the club was headed.

We then bought Hodgson in as manager, & Poulsen, Konchesky & Meireles to 'strengthen'.

I think the fact Reina's committing even his short term future to us now & not pushing for a move is testament to Kenny's turnaroud of team spirits.

It's gonna take some of the promises he's been made about signings to come true to make him sign a contract though, possibly a very good start to next season too, so he can be hopeful of CL football in 2012.

To be honest, red tinted glasses off for a moment, that's not unreasonable at all for a keeper rated amongst the best in the world.

If I was happy to stay at the club I'd sign.

If I was looking for a way out I wouldn't.

He's happy now, clearly, otherwise he'd be gone by now.

If we're in 15th position by November with no decent signings at all though, he wont be happy.

As no-one really knows the true cut of the new owners jib yet it's understandable he's not willing to commit long term yet. Neither would I in his position.

Nail on head.

If I was Reina, I wouldn't be signing a new contract either. Then again, contracts aren't worth a shit. He could sign it, rake in higher wages and still leave if he sees no improvement squad wise.

Gives you a lot more options if your contract is lower though.

I agree though, he shouldn't sign now unless everything he's been promised has happened, which I highly doubt.

Pepe should be playing CL football, if we don't look like we can offer him that by 2012/13 season he'll be off. I cant blame him for that either.

Looks like Samir Nasri has caught Pepe-itis. Imagine how gooners feel...

That prompted Wenger to say last week: "One thing's for sure, we're not selling him to Manchester United." Yet Nasri himself, when interviewed on TF1's Telefoot, appeared more open to the prospect. "Let's find out if their interest is true first, and then we'll talk about it," he said.

"I don't know if I will sign a new contract. Anyway, the discussions are on-going. For the moment, I don't want to think about this. We will speak about it after the match with Poland [on Tuesday]. Do I want to go to United? We should see if their interest is real and if it is concrete first."

If I was keeping my options open I wouldn't either.

It's not always that black and white.
