NFL Regular & Post Season Thread

So it starts in less than a week now... what's gonna happen?

I'll be boring and say the Patriots to win it all, after beating the Steelers in the AFC Championship (sorry Oncy).

NFC Champs to be the Bears.

Colts to miss the playoffs.

And Lions to go 2-14 (beating the Rams and Browns 😉 )

Re: NFL Regular Season Thread

I like the Patriots, Chargers and Steelers to be battling it out to play the Giants in the Superbowl this season, chaps.

I'll go with the Pats (naturally) to revenge the defeat of two seasons back.

I think the Cowboys will do their usual early impressing, late fade and immediate playoff defeat (sorry Avy).

I think that the Bears will win their division, because they finally have a real QB and I really think that the Diva won't give Minnesota an awful lot more at QB than they already had... Sure, there'll be longer passes and some "gun-slinging", but there'll also be ridiculous interceptions and game-costing decisions, as one of the games most overrated players ever continues to tarish his legacy. I hope the Vikings go 0-16. Look for the Bears to have home field in the playoffs.

My beloved Raiders will battle it out with Denver and Kansas City for the league's fewest wins. Denver might have the worst record when the dust settles, but my Raiders will solidify their reputation as the most pathetic organisation in all of professional sports.

Look for the Jets and Dolphins to regain the mid-table obsquerity to which they are accustomed, despite last season's brief fling with respectibility. Christ, I hate those two teams.

I also think Arizona will regain their rightful place as a nothing team, especially if any of their big three get hurt.

Can't wait for the kick off - This time of year SUCKS over here!

Are we doing a fantasy league this season? I'm in, if we are...

Re: NFL Regular Season Thread

I haven't been following the off-season.

But surely Pats have got to be one of the favourites, Brady with a year off? No.

That's a bold statement with the Detroit Lions about.

Even their merchandising would put others to shame... they e-mailed me to buy a Matt Stafford jersey BEFORE they'd even drafted him, and now, 5 months later and despite "purchasing" it on 3 occasions, it's still not been disptached and my money keeps being refunded.

Re: NFL Regular Season Thread

I heard that the Lions pre-season magazine had an advertisement for the 2008 dvd with the enticing accompanying text of "Relive the 2008 season!"

Re: NFL Regular Season Thread

Jeff Garcia and Zach Thomas amongst the big names cut. And that Giants receiver in the Superbowl.

Stafford named the Lions starting QB.

SHIT.

How's the O-Line looking?

Re: NFL Regular Season Thread

I like the Cowboys team - I don't know if we'll break the run without a playoff win but I like the team for a few reasons

a) the defense is stacked - i think it could be amongst the league's best. Watch out for Spears, Scandrick and Spencer ... All 3 should have big big years.
b) I think Romo will have his best year - not stats wise (not even close) - but I just feel he's about to 'grow up' as a QB.
c) The 3 RBs will really be a factor (Barber, Felix Jones - Mr. Home Run & choice)
d) the Special Teams will improve.

All in all, I hope for a 10-6 season, though I think 8-8 or 9-7 is more likely.

Oh dear!

Lets hope he doesn't end up like David Carr.

Stacked!?

Outside of Ratliff, Ware and Newman its average at best.

You'll grow old waiting for Spears to have a breakout season.

That's the concern. He has the best arm I've EVER seen in a Lions QB (that TD throw to Megatron that got called back for a pen was immaculate) but he's gonna get hit too much. We must sort the line.

I like all 3 FA starting pick ups - they're all solid, contributing veterans.

Bradie James is a pro bowl MLB -
Scandrick showed himself last year to be an excellent nickel CB - and I'll be surprised if by season's end he's not starting ahead of Jenkins.

What happen if your HD screen is hit and falls on Tony Romo's head?[/quote]

let's be honest, if that happened, it would really hurt.

I was convinced he had made it at least two years ago, when we were 13-3 and he was amongst the team's best players by far. I guess I was wrong - I still cannot believe you'd rate Ratliff, who's had one good season, and not James - who's been one of our defensive stalwarts for a while now ...

There's very few defenses in the NFL I'd have over ours - and with Phillips calling plays for the whole season, I expect some big things. He may be an average head coach, but he's a brilliant def coordinator.

True, James is a good solid player and has been for a number of seasons but he's no pro-bowler. Unlike Ratliff who was a pro-bowl selection last season and has been our most explosive defensive lineman for the last 3 years.

Read what Thomas (Zack) and Ware said about James and how important he is to the defense -

And we must be talking about a different Ratliff - I mean, the first two seasons, he got like 7-8 sacks TOTAL ... That's not explosive ...

Maybe explosive wasn't the best choice of word but there's no way you can judge his performances based on the number of sacks he gets. He plays NT in a 3-4 for god's sake!

If you can't see what a vital cog he's become for the Cowboys, you haven't been watching very closely.

Re: NFL Regular Season Thread

right now he's become very important to our team - it's hard to use bigger words than that when Ware lines up in the D however ... He's a great player, and a great draft pick upl

Re: NFL Regular Season Thread

'Its not pretty, we wont win any awards for style'
I fucking love my lads so much. Smashmouth for 60 minutes, grind, grind, grind. That was such a typical performance, the good, the bad and the ugly.
Polamalu was fucking outstanding, farrior, harrison, hampton etc picking up where they left off.
Holmes is developing into a quality wide reciever, i think everyone knows how highly i regard miller, ward and big ben.
Rb is a huge worry though. Obviously we wont face a defence that good every week, but we looked really toothless in that game and once again fucked up a bunch of 3rd and 1's. We built our success on a hard nosed running game, strong defence and clock management. If we cant run the ball we wont progress.
Still. Happy with the win and getting a tough game out of the way.

Re: NFL Regular Season Thread

2nd quarter of week 1, Lions secondary just equal their total number of interceptions from last season (one).

Go Lions!

Re: NFL Regular Season Thread

Cowboys up 13-7 at halftime ...

My views so far ...

Romo has thrown behind a few players so far BUT I've noticed him take a sack or throw the ball away rather than do something risky. That's really unlike him.

The 3 RBs will give headaches to every defense in the NFL - what a wonderful problem to have, let's hope Garrett uses them well.

Defense looks ok, or Cadillac Williams is fantastic ... Not sure which one it is, but I'm leaning towards the latter.

Miles Austin, if he can stay healthy, will be our only real big play threat from the WR slot

Re: NFL Regular Season Thread

I'm watching Vikings v. Browns

Browns are up 13 -10 thank to a great punt return just before HT.

I'm only watching in the hope that Favre gets hit hard a few times
