Last night was a perfect example of why over the course of a season he's simply not good enough.

Anyone but him in his shoes last night and we couldve won without a stevie gerrard intervention.

He's growing into a half decent player but he should be our 3rd or 4th choice not stand-in for torres.

So who's roy going bring in in jan to fill the void?

Harsh in the extreme to say "anyone but him". I doubt one of the strikers we were linked to in the summer would have done much better. Yes he's not good enough presently but he's still done alright for us. I reckon another few years he'll be a solid player

Get llorente abd lukaku now though

I didn't think he was that bad. He should've buried his chance, sure, but then Torres should've buried his against Bolton. It happens.

I think that's well harsh H, he held the ball up brilliantly at times last night and layed it off well, he was also surrounded whenever he got the ball and still managed to keep hold of it or at least win a throw or a freekick. He missed that chance but so do others, the problem is he got one chance, like Torres against Bolton, you have to take your chances yeah but we need to supply more.

I'm questioning his workrate and motivation.

Both are top notch. In the formation were deploying under roy though we need a potent finisher in his place.

I don't think he'll ever be that and last night highlighted it.

I'd be inclined to agree, though his finishing by and large 'can' be really good, I think the problem with him is that he always looks like he needs a strike partner, whereas Torres doesn't, though his hold up play has come on loads, it's just a shame that we didn't get the numbers around him last night when he had the ball played into him.

He was shit. He's always going to look shit if he doesn't score, he's just one of those players: a good, shit player.

He's just not that good. He is what he is. A £1.5m striker. Which, in striking terms, isn't very good. Which he isn't.

He played well.

He didn't play well, he played pish and is as weak as water

regards

Ha @ a good, shit player!!!

I'm going to move Lucas to that list as well. He has moved on from being completely shit to a good, shit player.

N'gog is all about the goals. Without them he is shit.

He also needs a strike partner desperately.

When we rest Torres I would much rather see him paired up front with Dirk.

So people are expecting him to start racking them up once/if he gets a strike partner?

I can't see how having someone up top with him suddenly makes him more able to kick a football into the back of the net

I didn't say that it would. It would reduce the burden on his weak frame to hold the ball up long enough for others to reach him.

We're toothless and limp when we start with N'gog on his own. He's not strong enough to do it.

Hopefully we'll be able to get d.bent or someone who provides both that physical presence but also the goals.

Who knows maybe ngog will start adding goals to his games, he's certainly improved in the past 12 months

Hes still young and learning. There is enough there to keep giving him chances for another while, unlike the rapper. Incidentally I thought the introduction of N'Gog in the Bolton match had a big say in us getting the three points. Torres seemed to start playing when he came on.

I thought N'Gog was the best players untill Gerrard arrived.

Completely on his own yet he managed to get a hold of quite a few balls and make the best of it too. He should've scored but the fact is he'll score goals when we'll start playing a more attacking-minded style of footy not leaving our strikers stranded. Torres has suffered from the exact same defensive-minded long-ball tactics.

The weird thing is that at times he does look like he can - for example against Arsenal earlier in the season. I wonder what triggers those kind of performances? Confidence?

Either way, not being able to play up front on your own when you're feeding off scraps is hardly the most damning of accusations. Most strikers struggle in those situations.

Eh?

He shouldve had at least a brace.

Call me old fashioned but unless he's making them or tucking them away like he shouldve done, any striker has had a far from good game.

At the end of the day had it not been for captain fantastic we'd have got a point tops and all of a sudden his hard work wouldve counted for very little

I like N'Gog. Always have.

He suffers from 'he's not Torres' comparisons, but he's improved greatly since he's bern here and will only get better.

Yup, I like him.

Another thread I don't think was warranted. N'gog missed a chance last night but he has been on decent scoring form in this competition.

As Ryan said, he isn't Torres but i'd rather N'gog (1.5million ) than Carlton Cole (10million). I'm sure we will add a striker to the books in Jan and N'gog is a very capable 3rd striker.

I dont think anyone wants a player of CC's quality and price tag at the club.

RE his Euopea league goal club; I don't think its a coincidence that came to an end with the introduction of half-decent sides.

I also said I didnt have a problem with him being a squad player in my original post, he's just not good enough to carry the burden of a lone-striker at the moment.

I agree, we should aspire to have better and we will in the next window, (I hope).

I thought N'Gog was good last night, whoever has taught him how to make the ball stick to his feet suddenly, has done a great job.

He missed a goal, but anyone can, as Shanks used to say 'You can't miss if your not trying'.

At one time he took a long ball on the right wing and was surrounded by 2-3 players, he pulled the ball down and danced around them all, coming out with the ball at his feet.

He's coming on leaps and bounds, only last season almost every ball passed too him was bouncing of 2-3 feet away and getting lost

Very harsh on our top scorer. He's young improving and getting goals. He'll get more clinical with experience and be more effective when he fills out. Had it been Pacheco our top scorer, people would be creaming themselves.

He is 22 next birthday, we can't keep making the excuse he is young and learning.
In another three years he should be reaching his peak. He is Babel mark two.
Babel is 24 next month. He is another one where everyone has been saying he is young, give him a chance , he is learning.
Hey presto four years on, he ain't no mo bro.

Watch my lips N'gog is weak and gets pushed around and does not get stuck in enough.
He does not make the most of opportunities.
Oh and by the way he was complete shite last night, even forgetting the blunders.

No chance
