Uruguayan attacking midfielder/winger for Ajax, plagued by foot injuries since signed for them but still regarded as an almighty prospect.

Maybe we'll be in for him?

Lodeiro is probably on par with Henderson these days. Showed great promise a few years ago, 30 yard runs, powerful shot... A more motivated Recoba, not the same level of talent, but on his way. On the national team he was groomed to be the heir to Forlan's role. Moved to Ajax (a move supposedly orchestrated by Suarez) was supposed to be a stepping stone to bigger things.

Injuries have held him back but he's also proven to be very flustered against bigger competition. Not getting many games at Ajax and has slipped down on the national team. I had high hopes for him but he just doesn't seem to be good enough for the big games. Silly fouls, easily cut-out, not strong enough, and not yet smart enough to work beside Suarez and Cavani. Gaston Ramirez is the Uruguayan you want if you want a Uruguayan attacking midfielder, and he has a ways to go.

Honestly, after Suarez, if you're not signing Cavani, there's no other attacking player from the Uruguayan national team I'd sign. Abel Hernandez is a goal poacher, fast, and has been decent for Palermo. But he's too small to play in the Premier League and often goes missing in games. He'd be a gamble. Emiliano Alfaro just signed for Lazio and Lazio will probably loan him out to get European experience for the rest of the season. He's another one to watch.

And from Ajax... is Sulejmani going anywhere this transfer period?

Nice summary.

On Wiki and it says Lodeiro is 5'8. Is that right?

He's always looked much shorter than that to me... like in the 5'5 territory.

El Malarky, just been on the news now site and seen an ominous link for David Teixera, What's he like?
His stats seem ok considering this is his first season at Groningen, 7 goals in 12 starts.
Moneyball signing?

Haven't we been linked with him before?

Has never really impressed me too be honest. Decent footballer but NOT the Ajax-player we should be looking at.

I'd say there's at least three ahead of him in that aspect if we indeed were to offload their talents.

In order:

Eriksen
Vertonghen
Boilesen

Is Texeira a good deal? I don't know. Played brightly for something like half a season for Defensor In Uruguay, got gobbled up quick and shipped to Europe. (Chelsea, I believe, have some deal with Defensor and often trial their young players). He trained with River Plate too. Good prospects get shipped out quickly, agents grab a big slice of the signing bonus, and then its good fucking luck.

Seems to have stayed afloat, though, so good for him. I don't think the eredivisie is a joke league, like some people in England seem to suggest; winning games, getting goals there especially at 19 or 20 is good work. Considering Liverpool's slow pace/reluctance in bringing young strikers up to the first team, he's better off getting consistent games at Groningen, getting more experience, no?

Cheers for that Malarkey, interesting read.

Very interesting read indeed from someone who obviously knows what he's on about.

Cheers Malarkey.

PS I'm not sure why you care whether Sulejmani is going anywhere mind, as he is, in my opinion not even fit to sit on our bench. You believe he'd be worth a punt?
