Barcelona’s teen sensation Lamine Yamal is facing threats of legal action after reportedly hiring people with dwarfism to perform at his 18th birthday party. The footballing sensation celebrated his birthday over the weekend, throwing a star-studded event. While the use of mobile phones was banned inside the party venue, images leaked to social media showed a group of people of short stature arriving at the party, quickly going viral and drawing backlash for the Barcelona starlet.

The images enraged Spain’s Association of People with Achondroplasia and other Skeletal Dysplasia (ADEE), who condemned Yamal, accusing him of using people’s disabilities as entertainment. They’re now threatening to take legal and social action against the player, already considered one of world football’s best wingers despite his youth. In a statement, ADEE says Yamal’s actions were “intolerable” as they “perpetuate stereotypes, fuel discrimination and undermine the image and rights of those with achondroplasia or other skeletal dysplasia, as well as all people with disabilities.” The organisation’s decision to pursue Yamal legally stems from its desire to “safeguard the dignity of people with disabilities”.

ADEE says the problem is not isolated with the Barcelona player, but a societal one. The body, a member of Spain’s Confederation of People with Physical and Organic Disabilities (COCEMFE), stated that they are working to eradicate the culture of objectification of people with dwarfism.
“It's unacceptable that in the 21st century, people with dwarfism continue to be used as entertainment at private parties, and even more serious when these incidents involve public figures like Lamine Yamal," said Carolina Puente, ADEE president. "The dignity and rights of our community are not entertainment for anyone, under any circumstances,” she added.

There have been no remarks from Yamal or his camp on the ADEE escalations.

Once upon a time there was a young lad working in a bar. It was a busy Christmas Eve night and not one, not two, not three, but SEVEN dwarfs walked in.

This young lad was Athens. I can't remember if snow white was there too as I was too shocked at the sight of seven little people.

If he's not careful his career is going to be like Ronaldinho's and Neymars at Barca - bombed out because of off the pitch issues. The kid is clearly talented but he's not surrounding himself with the right people

Is there any more detail on what exactly went down? Like was it a dwarf-tossing competition or something?

Because I'd generally class myself as probably being part of "The PC Brigade" - but if these little dudes have set themselves up as a business offering these kind of services (and assuming that they're all consenting adults that haven't been trafficked or coerced in some way) then surely they're just playing the cards they were dealt and tryna make a living surely?

It's like hiring strippers because they've got a nice arse and big tits - sure, not everyone's cup of tea and maybe seen as a bit distasteful - but pursuing legal action?

On what grounds?

Yep exactly, succeeding in any legal action is gonna be a tall order.

I just went to cirque du soleil, and, in keeping with the tradition of the circus, a dwarf had a big role in the show. Her size was exploited for entertainment, but she wasn't. So no, it's not fundamentally fucked, but it might or might not be.

Going to cirque du soleil in 2025 is a hanging offence so I'd delete that post and move on.

And Athens went on to serve the children with fake id a wide variety of alcoholic beverages

I think I was just a lowly glass collector at the time...

In my defence, all little people look the same to me, be they children or midgets.

Was a cannon involved?

I thought the same thing, so apparently it was in case anyone law was broken.
The law being basically you can't take the piss out of people with a disability.

The argument would be, did anyone take the piss out of the dwarfs or just let them get on with entertaining the crowd.
