Not arsed

I didn’t read anything here yet and saw the game only partially, but clearly the theme for me is in the title of this thread. The players were not arsed about this game - at least not quite enough to match the intensity and theatrics of the Galatasarai team in front of their home fans. Slot was experimenting with tactics and positions, having learned from last season that you don’t get rewarded for winning every game in the group stage.

And I was not arsed about this game too and in the end not too bothered about the defeat. Chelsea is the far more important game; it stings that we’ve temporarily lost Alisson and possibly Ekitike, but it will all be forgotten if we get back on track in the league at Stamford Bridge and then against United. There were some decent bits of play in the first half, then after the penalty it turned into a frustrating slog and at that point you could be forgiven for turning the TV off. Yes, it’s annoying to lose 2 games in a row, but this mini-slump has no bearing on evaluating our chances to win silverware in May. If someone wants to write us off, have at it.

It's not this game though, it's the performances stretching back even to last season. I said last season felt like the end of something, not the beginning of something. We've really begun something new now. It would be more exciting if the only direction wasn't down, and if we hadn't seen such lofty heights in recent memory.

It is a bit ironic to lose two key players in a game we were not arsed about, though.

Otherwise, agree that this wasn't an important result

This isn't really the time for experimenting, definitely not with different systems of play. Id like to see one work. Since the old heads know the old one, lets go with that.
The experimenting should’ve happened pre-season and in training. The amount of patterns in play we’ve seen from us is low. The Ngumoha goal against Newcastle, most of the first half against Everton and the same for A Madrid. The rest has been varying degrees of being shit. We are now 9 games into the season and I have no idea what is meant to be our ethos or style as a team.

Go back to what you know and work from there. Or just go for whatever the vision is and see how that pans out. If we are doing a transition to when Salah goes, bin it off. That itself is a temporary fix.

Our issue is our entirely static and predictable front line. Playing Isak when unfit (though I don't know whether that will improve when fit) just means we have an immobile weak 9. Gakpo is so predictable and reluctant to be direct.

We need to go back to one quick direct winger, one mobile 9, and Salah popping up when he can be arsed.

I really don't want to but we need to play Rio, just to see if it change sour dynamic

I thought this title would be about out finishing. Some have heard this rant loads but it’s more apt than ever now we are getting less chances.

All through last season, and even before - it was crystal clear to me that we were half seeing shots at goal. This was IMO because the attackers KNEW they’d be getting 25 chances a game and “oh, I’ll get another chance soon”

You then compare that to strikers who feed off dregs (Chris wood as example last season) - know they’ll get one chance in a game and finish it as if it’ll be their last.

We are still doing this, but with fewer big chances a game. It’s a mentality thing. It needs fixing.

Oh and I’m arsed because we tried to buy the league and the performances are embarrassing. We need to get our act together otherwise Arsenal will walk it.
Exactly

Imagine not being arsed after winning the league and spending huge amounts in the summer.

This is the exact time we should be arsed

And straight after the Palace horror show too. Slot made changes, but his spine played, and they were all over the place and two ended up injured. Great night.

He needs to go back to basics and drop that fucking gobshite Konate.

I'm back to dreading games because we've lost all our creativity. I remember us marauding down the flanks, playing one over the head for Suarez. Trent popping one for Salah to run onto. When did Roy Hodgson resume managing? Joking apart we've got our data analytics team back, how did we manage to spend so big and go backwards? Not knee jerk but slot saying he inherited a perfect team he promptly dismantles is perplexing. Trent he couldn't help but we lost a potent attack and didn't replace like for like. If Frimprong why not harness his speed, Kirkez too and use wingbacks and width and cross in for Isak. Instead of this eye of the needle shit.

That's a very interesting viewpoint... I must have missed it when you said that initially, 'coz I've not considered that until now. But it's very valid and thought provoking.
