But it's a start!

Only a few houses left behind the main stand now, all will be demolished by the end of the week.

So, does this mean the stand will be ready for next season (15/16)? Or is it the season after?

I can't wait to see this done. It was always a slightly depressing walk from The Harry to the ground and seeing those boarded up houses.

It was more than slightly depressing. It's a travesty a city who can boast the Albert Docks, Liverpool one and the Georgian Quarter also displays rows upon rows of derelict, boarded up houses.

A travelling away fan who was not staying over would never come back or recommend the city, because it would be impossible to not to walk away and to believe it to be a rancid, smackhead ridden shithole.

Council have a lot to answer for.

That was the exact impression i got when i first went, like you say it was impossible to think anything else.

So those derelict houses on the left of RAWK photos are to remain?

Nope. All the houses right up to the road the Harry is on are eventually going, to be replaced by a 'plaza', basically some grass, walkways, & I'm assuming loads of fancy stalls selling overpriced merchandise & foodstuffs.

The red marks the area which will be demolished eventually for the new Main stand. The yellow marks what has been demolished till end of June. From the latest images they are much further down Lothair Road and should be done demolishing all the homes on it, by the end of the week. Courtesy RAWK

Sorry ynwa, you're right, for some reason I thought anfield square was going behind the main stand too, but it's actually adjacent to it, looking at the plans again.

Is the main stand the only one we can extend out on? You've got a row of houses behind the centenary, and two main roads on the other two ends.
Would we just have to tear down those stands and rebuild them higher if we wanted to increase capacity on those 3?

We're extending anfield road in phase 2

There's Anfield Road, which will hopefully be green lit the year after this is completed, but anything more is lot more complicated than that.

It's not been mentioned at all during this round of redevelopment/new stadium talk, but a few of the others referred to 60k as the tipping point to providing infrastructure for traffic.

That's a huge sticking point as the council & Merseytravel are twats, instead of taking the long view that once completed the area will be much more popular for businesses as it will be more accessible 24/7 they simply claim that if the club want it then they should shoulder the costs, which are huge, even relative to this kind of project & it's eye watering cost.

Sadly, with councils knowing they may well not be in charge to reap the benefits in a few years time, travel infrastructure being privatised, &, dare I say it, owners who aren't looking at the extremely long term, I doubt we'll see anything more than this unless we have a consistent & sustained run over a few years of titles & CL trophies which would offset those huge costs & offer more instant gratification through increased fan footfall & spend per head to all concerned.

Personally, I think 60k is quite alright for the medium term anyway, the club just need to be proactive in acquiring the residence behind the other stands so if the need arises in ten years time, or the council / merseyrail pull their foot out, we'll be ready to expand. Whilst it's great having a full stadium of 80-90k during the big games of the season, I think having fully sold out games at 60k all year round is more appealing, from an atmosphere, not financial perspective that is.

Are any of the other stands getting redeveloped or is it just the main one that will bring the capacity to 60k?

It's being done in 3 stages.
1) The main Stand
2) Anfield Road
3) The corner joining those 2 stands.

Yep, that was def the impression my girlfriend got this season. Only saw the area around Anfield and the Harry. Wasnt too keen on coming back.

Ive not seen all of the city but the Docks and Liverpool One definitely made a better impression.

Excited to see a rejuvenated Anfield for my next visit.
