Deposed match thread starter

Not sure if there is a way of almost automating these but for example the "Lets talk about Woland thread" gets blocked by my work internet whatever saying it breaches our policy due to "sex". I don't know whether this gets reported (not overly arsed if it does) but if there are threads that would be blocked, can we keep the NSFW tags up to date? Not sure how to enforce this but just a request to know whether this is possible.

My apologies for that Brizzle, the mods are a bit slack round here 😀

Added the TAG

If you come across any NSFW content, the easiest way to bring it to our attention is to click the report link in the relevant post and the mods will act accordingly to whatever action needs to be taken.. i.e Tag thread, removed offensive content etc..

Their is no content we would deem overly NSFW in that thread but given what its talking about and the odd one or two links of images woland has added from his 'sources', no doubt it would be flagged up on your work..

So yeh it warrants its NSFW tag...

Jono, do you know what the work based Web Shields pick up on?

I assume just swear words aren't enough to flag them?

It could be a link or image posted in the forum. or someones avatar, signature (hosted elsewhere).. that usually flags it.. Most content is blocked based on web addresses from a database called upon from a defined work proxy filter, so if something is posted from a defined blocked source.. the thread in question will also be blocked (depending on how thorough, upto date and ruthless the work filters databases are)..

How Does Content Filtering Work?

The Web filter uses two main methods to determine whether or not to block a given URL request based on the Web site content:

  • URL matchingWeb requests are checked against the Web Reputation database; the URL, category, user, and the highest-priority policy that contains the requesting user are all resolved and the appropriate action taken.
  • Real-time ratingWeb pages not found in the Web Reputation database are assessed and a content probability-rating is determined on the fly (in real time); the page rating and category are then evaluated against the highest priority policy containing the requesting user.

A Web page is categorized based on the aggregate weighting of all words on that site, which helps prevent over-blocking or incorrectly blocking a specific page. Once a URL/domain has been categorized and verified in another layer of the filter, the URL/domain is placed in the local cached database, which can be periodically uploaded to join the aggregate URL list.
More information

Each word gets assigned a probability rating for each of the 80-plus categories. For example, the English word ”casino,” which may appear most frequently in the ”gambling” categorywhere it receives the highest probability ratingmay also have a statistical rating in all of the other categories. This implies that just because ”casino” is associated with gambling does not mean it is necessarily a gambling page.
Currently, real-time ratings focus on the most common languages that appear on the Web. As the need increases, full or partial coverage in other languages is being added.

Pornographic Content

Because of the exposure, liability and risk that organizations face when users access pornographic or adult material, the URL Filter is very good at recognizing and accurately rating this type of content. It is also very good at recognizing the ”potentially offensive” categories listed.

That's good Jono, cheers.

Language used shouldn't be an issue as it aggregates it so the swear words are less impactful.

I'd say most of the times we get blocks by these filters will be urls from image links.

I couldn't report as I couldn't open the thread, and I also kept forgetting to check that thread on my home laptop!

I'm not bothered by the actual content, as I don't think my company has an IT process that would be arsed with that, it was just odd that it wouldn't even let me open the thread!

Thanks for the tags 😎
