Other games thread 22-24 August

That was a lovely hit by Damsgaard. They’ve barely had a kick of the ball in the game, but when they have…

There’s absolutely no way that’s been disallowed when Arsenal score from those weekly. What a sham.

And Mings should've been carded earlier for that dangerous high boot as well some minutes before the goal.

Rooting for Brentford to win this one, hard done by both times. Maybe Kayode can throw one directly into the net in the second half. Given how shit the officiating and VAR is, it'll probably be allowed.

Great first half for Spurs. I want a gap ahead of City as quickly as possible. They will continue to improve as the season goes on.
Will they? I keep banging on the 'they bought average players to replace superstars' drum, but some on this forum see 'City' and "Fraudiola' and think that's all it takes. I had them down for 3rd pre-season and I still think that's where they'll end up.

Let's start by beating Newcastle. We need a good start to this league campaign, because we're in a similar process to City. We have three new players in the starting XI, so we'll get better as the season goes on. But we also lose Salah in December/January.
We won all the matches he was absent last time and have only one tough game in the 6 weeks he'll likely be away this time.

You're right IMO about the relative quality (or lack of it) of their new players compared with those players' predecessors, but the new ones aren't flat out poor and I do think they'll probably improve as they play together more. The extent to which they'll do that remains to be seen.

Yeah but we had diogo then. ATM we haven't got the depth to be without for 2 weeks, let alone 6

fingers crossed that changes over the next week

i find their signings on the whole quite weird, i think you’re right about most of the signings being average.

the thing is de bruyne, walker, stones, bernardo and many others were huge fees at the time. players like that cost from the high tens to early hundred millions now, city just can’t pull that off these days with all the scrutiny.

Yes it does seem that whatever happens with 115 that PSR scrutiny has them toeing the line and it's clearly affected their recruitment, at least until the next 'multi-million £ 'sponsorship'.

Leeds winger, Wilfried Gnonto (22 in November), Itay international. Reminds me of Shaqiri from the clip below. Been with Leeds for a few seasons now, and played 24 league games for them when they were last in the Premier League (22/23 season; he was 19/20 then; scored twice).

Rooting for him to have a good game against the Gunners!

Arsenal really should be favourites for the league this year. Lego head can’t complain about his squad depth and options, plenty players reaching their peak years together.

I know he’s banged in an absurd number of goals across the past two seasons, but Gyokeres doesn’t really pass the eye test - he looks like a very expensive Ricky Lambert, his movement is cumbersome his first touch and technique is pretty average.

Ricky Lambert is a great comparison lol. He might score goals but at what cost to the team?

The fact that no Prem club went in for him even though he was scoring freely for Coventry always struck me as a warning sign.

There's certain players that you feel need everything to be through them to be a success. I feel thats the case with gyokeres. Either he'll score a a good amount but other players will struggle, or the team works well and he struggles.
