Our Harv.

He should have moved to Germany. Going to Villa was a stupid career move.

As it turned out, yes, but on paper it was probably his best option. One of the better PL teams and European football.
He wasn't to know that he wouldn't get a game.

If he ends up in the MLS because of how he´s been fucked about, prepare for me to bring it up every time a player plays hardball with a team over their contract, and people get sanctimonious.

MLS. Jesus.
For 6 months he can regain fitness and confidence and raise his asking price. Not the worst thing in the world. Better than rotting on the bench or in the reserves.

Those are great choices for him. At no point is anyone arguing we have any responsibility to play him, right? Because we just go by the contract.

This is what I'm saying. Fine. Go by the contract. When the players do it, know that this is the logic under which they negotiate as well.

Of course but I would imagine there is a somewhat unwritten rule that unless stated from the outset players won’t run their contracts down and leave for nothing. Things go sour when they try to do it in a deceitful way.

Surely you find out that the manager doesn’t rate you and see all the competitors you have for the same spot in team before you say yes?
Playing in Germany wouldn’t have made any difference for a WC spot

He would have been given the impression that the manager does rate him, though. The same goes for the competition for a place.

He hasn't just shown up there and decided he's signing for them. Villa did actually want to sign him and agree to pay him.

I agree with you about Germany, but I can also see why a player would prefer to play in the Premier League if they were led to believe they could do so for a big club.

Monchi wanted him and has probably sold a fairytale of a transfer it seems. Feel for Harvey though. But might have been better to go to a lesser team and be the main man.

Villa did seem like a risky bet for both the player and us. I'm surprised that loan deals don't include financial penalties as standard to avoid situations like this because they've not just fucked over Elliot, they've cost us real money as his value will have dropped now.

I seem to remember under the Rafa period we had deals for loans. If the player got sufficient game time we would cover wages. If not the loaning club had to dig deep to pay up. It was a way to force clubs to play them because if all they did was train and sit out they may as well have done that with us.

@Beamrider did I dream that?

the good thing for harvey is that he can go somewhere middling for 3,4,5 seasons and still get a big move if, like some of us believe, he could flourish late in his career.

he needs to do two things though, play football and make the right career choices. imo forget liverpool harvey.

It's just a shame. We had a player who wwould run through walls for us, but instead we farmed him out because the manager didn't rate him.

I'd kill for our players to have the commitment on the pitch that he did.

Same with Quansah, Chiesa, and now the kids that Slot threw under the bus after the Leeds game. He's toxic and needs to go now.
