Pepe Reina

I can't see Arsenal paying big wages for what will probably be a back up keeper.
So we would probably have to subsidize his wages, possibly to the tune of £50k
That said there are probably few teams able to pay anything close to the wages he is apparently on.
So unless he is willing to take a huge wage cut to play regular football, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he goes out on loan again, with us paying most of his wages,

PSG could probably afford a high profile backup because PSG.

Haven't one of the Spanish clubs had a major financial takeover? They would probably be interested in a high profile GK.

Pepe might be forced to take a cut in wages if he ever wants to see the pitch again.

I think letting reina go might be missing a trick. sure wages are high, but taking into account the cost of buying a decent replacement, they are prob not that high. more importantly competition is key. I imagine Ming would be on his best behaviour if he knew Reina was challenging rather than some of the mediocre bods we've been linked with.

Di Marzio

Perhaps Pepe Reina’s stint at Napoli is not over yet. De Laurentiis and Benitez could have the goalkeeper back: they are waiting for a signal from the player, meanwhile Napoli asked Liverpool what his intentions are and if they want to free Reina. Reds will initially ask for cash, while Napoli would like to pay only the wages of the player (€2,5/3M for 2/3 years). The negotiation could speed up in the next days. Benitez and Napoli still believe that Reina can return.

Reina has basically got to come to terms with a big pay cut if he wants to play again. Sadly if his attitude for the national team is anything to go by, his hunger is limited to off the field. But we shouldn't let him go for nothing just so he can keep his wages.

Might we not have to though, for the sake of getting him off the wage bill if he's not going to be of use to us on the field again?

It's likely, yes, but I think we should be strong, at least for a while, before succumbing to the agent's agenda. At the very least we should flood Reina and his agent with as many offers as we can find. It's obvious they expect us just to bow to his demands so even if it's just a matter of principle I think we should call his bluff.

Didn't he say at one stage he'd love to finish his career at Athletico? With Maureen saying today that Courtois will return to Chelsea it's the perfect opportunity for Reina to realise his boyhood dream. Come on Pepe, waive the last few years of your contract and take a big signing on fee in Madrid...you know you want to! 😛
