Not sure what team to go with for this one. Assuming Henderson is injured, it leaves us with only Milner really, so the team picks itself. There's no way Nunez is walking back into this one - a) he doesn't deserve to and b) it's exactly the sort of game where a side will look to rile him, knowing how he reacted against Palace.

I personally wouldn't play Trent, I think he's in shite form, Gordon and/or Gray are likely to exploit his side and are in good form, so it's a tough one. Again, the only thing going in Trent's favour is that we literally have no one else who can play there, so it looks like he starts. Anymore shite in this game though and he deserves a lengthy spell on the sidelines:

Likely:
---------------------Allison---------------------
Trent------Gomez----VVD----Robertson
------------------Fabinho----------------------
------Elliott--------------------Milner---------
--Salah---------Firmino----------Diaz------

Preferred:

---------------------Allison---------------------
Trent------Gomez----VVD----Robertson
-----------------Fabinho----------------------
--------Elliott---------------Milner-----------
---Diaz---------Salah---------Carvalho--

Three on the bounce and you get the "Mark's at the wheel" confidence vote 🙂

I assume no word on the Aberdeen lad we bought and turned out to be broken?

Everton will look to frustrate us just like Newcastle. Best case scenario is getting an early goal, which would force them to play because "bitters".
I think Klopp might play Matip in this one. Tsimikas should start.
We might see a Fabs, Elliott and Carvalho midfield, but it's more likely that Milner will come in for Hendo.

I hope to God that Matip is deemed fit for this. Jones for Hendo if fit enough too.

I forgot about Jones, how match fit can he be though? It's a big game to throw him into.

If Matip is fit it might be worth putting Gomez at right back.

Rethink:

-------------------Allison--------------------
Gomez---Matip---VVD----Robertson
-----------------Fabinho-------------------
-------Elliott---------------JM/CJ---------
---Diaz--------Salah----------Carvalho

He’s started training with the first team.

Alisson

Trent Matip Virgil Robbo

Elliott Fabs Milner

Salah Firmino Diaz

Would like to see Curtis start but he might not be match fit as others have said.

That Gordon (Postman Pats unknown son) cunt will be running at us and diving all game. Goodison will scream murder and hopefully we'll have a decent ref that wont be intimated.

Need to keep winning.

It will be the same team with Milner in for Henderson. I think Milner should be holding alongside Fabinho with Elliott given a free role.

I think Gomez has done enough to keep his pace for now.

Nunez will be lucky to get off the bench given the atmosphere and hostility that will be on show.

Their attack of purely pacey attackers could do to us what United did, so we really need to be sharp for this one.

I would personally love to seen Nunez start - hopefully someone's taught him that he can play a role in riling up opposition defenders rather than let himself be the target for it. I think we need his focal point of the attack immensely though. If Matip were fit I wouldn't be against Gomez at RB, althoughI don't think even Klopp is brave enough to leave Trent out against Everton.

Goes without saying but early goal and early intensity is what wins us this game.

And if we concede an early goal as we've done upteenth times this season, it will be difficult to get any type of play going.

Think I'd rather have Nunez come on after 60ish mins and run at the Everton defense.

We have Carvalho as an effective impact sub so far - our shape is completely different with Nunez and I think we need to get into that as early as possible.

Not sure the derby is when to bring a recently injured, not match fit Matip back in, even if I generally prefer him over Gomez.

Nunez starts for me. Let him make up for his idiocy against Palace.

Recently injured for what, 2-3 weeks?

Gomez doesn’t look anything like the player he promised to become a couple of seasons back. He’s not in the same league as Matip.

I’d have Matip on the middle and Gomez RB.
Nunez to come on last half hour when they’re battered and Bobby is too.

Everton have made their worst start to a Premier League season for over a decade. The last time they failed to win any of their first five games, back in 2010-11, David Moyes was their manager and Mikel Arteta was at the heart of their midfield. Frank Lampard’s side have just three points on the board as they prepare to welcome Liverpool to Goodison Park on Saturday. After narrowly avoiding relegation last season, all signs point towards another slog for the Toffees.
After his former Chelsea and England teammate Scott Parker was sacked by Bournemouth – having won one of his four games at the start of the season – Lampard will be clinging to any positives from such a turbulent run. To Everton’s credit, they defended well as a team in their 1-1 draw at Elland Road on Tuesday night. The performance was full of grit and determination. (ME : let's remember this was Leeds)!

Amadou Onana, the 21-year-old midfielder who joined the club from Lille this summer, played a key role as a disruptor, and Everton generally protected their penalty box well, with the experience and leadership of new arrivals Conor Coady and James Tarkowski at the heart of their defence. Dwight McNeil also tracked back well to help Nathan Patterson double up on the in-form Jack Harrison.

When things are not going your way, it’s vital to at least carry out the basics. Everton have only conceded more than once in one of their first five matches and they have shipped fewer league goals than Chelsea. However, a closer look at the data paints a worrying picture for Lampard. They have only scored four goals and, aside from facing Chelsea on the opening weekend, none of their subsequent four opponents finished in the top half of the table last season. But in their next six matches they face Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham, so what happens when the basics aren’t enough?

Everton’s defenders have already expended a lot of energy this season, as their midfield is not capable of controlling possession. A move for Manchester United midfielder James Garner is therefore logical. Everton have conceded in the last 10 minutes in three of their last four league games. If you keep knocking on the Everton door, eventually it will open. Everton are only averaging 40% possession in matches this season and their pass success rate is just 75.5% – both among the bottom three returns in the division. Against Leeds, two of Everton’s three midfielders finished the match with pass success rates below 70%.

The loss of Richarlison in attack is naturally still being felt by Everton. The Brazilian had a direct hand in 35% of Everton’s league goals last season. They signed McNeil from Burnley to replace Richarlison but he hasn’t scored in the Premier League since March 2021, when he scored against Everton of all teams. The club are on to their third manager since then. McNeil has not found the back of the net from any of his last 65 shots. So far for Everton he has proved a better defender than attacker, with more tackles completed (14) than shots and key passes combined (eight).

Lampard would have hoped Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury woes would be behind him now, but the England international is yet to feature this season. He hasn’t started four Premier League games in a row since the end of the 2020-21 campaign. At one point in the summer it seemed Lampard would also lose Anthony Gordon. The 21-year-old had a promising breakout campaign last year, prompting Chelsea to make a £45m bid for his services.

Chelsea are apparently prepared to pay £60m for the 21-year-old. In normal circumstances, Everton would be keen to cash in, but losing Gordon this summer could be catastrophic for their hopes of surviving in the Premier League. Through no fault of his own, he now has the weight of a club on his shoulders. Players do not determine their price, but have to live with it. The England Under-21 international is not a £60m player, but will now be treated as one. He scored four league goals last season and three of those required a deflection. To his credit, he has now scored in back-to-back games.

Gordon has been responsible for 48% of Everton’s shots on target in the Premier League this season, pointing to a huge over-reliance on him going forward. With Calvert-Lewin unavailable and Salomón Rondón out of favour, Everton hijacked Fulham’s move to sign Neal Maupay from Brighton and he will most likely make his debut on Saturday.

The 26-year-old will provide industry up front, but he will not replace the goals scored by Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin. Maupay only scored 26 goals from 228 shots for Brighton in the Premier League and he only converted 18 of his 44 clear-cut chances in that time.

Everton have not beaten Liverpool at Goodison Park for nearly 12 years, but there is one positive omen for Lampard. That victory came early in the 2010-11 season, the last time they failed to win any of their first five fixtures. Goals from Tim Cahill and Arteta gave Moyes a vital victory and left Roy Hodgson’s Liverpool in the relegation zone.
Lampard desperately needs a repeat this weekend. Having failed to take advantage of accommodating opening fixtures, he could find that the pressure ramps up in the coming weeks. Keeping the support of the fans will determine the future of Lampard and his team in this division, as they have only won one of their last 20 games on the road in the Premier League.

Yep. Same team.

Firstly Trent is up against Gordon and Gray so Gomez's pace makes sense whereas Matip doesn't, esp. on his return after a few weeks out. I'd play Tsimikas over Robbo who has been stinking up the place pretty much most of this season (OK over exaggeration but let's just say not up to his normal levels - nor to Tsimikas') ; Klopp won't though so no change there.

Midfield is a straight swap, Milner for Hendo. Klopp clearly doesn't rate Jones (c.f. Melo) and he's in Matip's fitness boat anyway.

Bobby hasn't done anything to deserve dropping - and Klopp may see it that way and keep him in the starting XI - however Nunez offers far more threat and Everton always have a couple of hefty/dirty CBs that Nunez (after having learnt his lesson and with Klopp's words having seared their way into his brain) with his height, pace and weight can cope with better.

I've love to see Carvalho start but that would mean in place of Bobby, Elliott or Diaz and I just can't see it.

Everton really are shite. 0-3 (Mo, Nunez, VvD).

I’d start both Trent and Robbo. They’d have received a huge dressing down being hauled off last night. This is their final warning before being dropped.

or could it be his opportunity to show everyone he has things under control, couldn’t be a better game to do it in imho

The midfield lineup is easy, now hear me out as I think it's a win win for both me and @Frogfish :

We don't play Milner to start with and we know Everton are gonna be at us in the first 15 to 20 mins anyway possible, proper violence and all. So we put the new guy in the starting lineup, sort of like using him as fodder... welcome to Merseyside etc.. by 20 mins he will either be injured for the rest of the season or be totally fucked up by it all. We then sub him for Milner, so that way it will be like we got no one, and play the rest of the game with Klopps right players. Also Mili plays 20 mins less so maybe can play the next game.

Good plan eh ? Will make me feel good.

Wishing one of our players a season long injury or being seriously fucked up is seriously fucked up.

Back on ignore I think

Really, I wished a player an injury ? What did you read that said I wished one of our players to be injured? I don't think any of us have to wish it if that's their thing, the injuries will happen in the next game regardless. This fixture scares me more than any other and I know they will come. But this season with the record of our players and them being a year older, when they face pressing teams we will contue to have injuries. I have come to that conclusion, and have accepted we will finish outside top 4.

Fuck it, start arthur. I could do with a reason to watch the game
