Reina - 6 Did what he had to do, which wasn't a whole lot. I didn't think there was a whole lot he could have done for the goals.

Insua - 5 He made some good passes but he is getting caught out of position quite a bit and isn't the greatest at tracking back. He doesn't actually stop many attacks either.

SKrtel - 6.5 I thought it was improved performance from him today.

Carragher - 6 Had a promising start and on the whole performed reasonably well but he got beaten too easily for the second goal.

Johnson - 5.5 - Disappointing today, he was beaten a few times a little bit too easily but at the same time there were a couple of glimpses that his reading of the play is improving. Offered suprisingly little going forward today.

Riera - 6 - Did his usual, worked hard but didn't quite provide the attacking threat we'd like.

Mascherano - 7 A good display of breaking up the play and sensible passing was tainted somewhat when he got caught in possession in the lead up to the opener.

Lucas - 6 Didn't get on the ball that much, but he was tidy in possession. But he needs to be more effective with his passing. They never lead to anything.

Kuyt - 5 - Busy as ever, but not particularly effective today. He never really threatened the Chelsea defence.

Gerrard - 5 Very sloppy in possession today, as an example - between open play and corners Gerrard attempted 11 crosses today. One of them found a Liverpool player. He never really threatened in the way we know he can and gave the ball away more than usual.

Torres - 5 Is it just me or does it look like he's only going through the motions when he has to challenge for long punts upfield ? He only really got one half decent chance, it was awkward and he got it on target. Everytime he looked dangerous he either got fouled or completely surrounded and isolated.

Surprised at the negativity towards Glenjo, I thought he was good.

i wouldn't have given Torres more than 1, the huffy cunt.

That whining and gesticulating in Spanish when yet another defender has left him on his arse makes me want to boot the TV.

Johnson defended much better than earlier in the season, but looked less of an attacking threat. One of the reasons he's been so dangerous attacking as he was genuinely 50-50 weather he'd go outside on his right , or come inside on his left. That uncertainty in the left backs mind would give him more time. He didn't really do that today, it was all a bit obvious.

The good news though is we know he can attack, and now he's starting to defend too (which I'm curious if Rage will give Rafa any credit for?)

Johnson got into good positions at times, really dangerous ones actually but his delivery was very poor and had it been better we could have scored. Thought it was his worst games for us in the league so far this season.

It's annoying but it's part of his game ...

I can't be bothered to do ratings after my fiasco last week but I'll say this - we need far far better from Gerrard & Kuyt. They both seem to be a few gears below the levels they should be at.

Hmmm, true. But to be fair, they had off games and have given us plenty in recent seasons.

Riera on the other hand, all week to prepare for this, and he still can't make an impact beyond 60 mins. No goals, no assists, no real influence in the final third. Another typical Riera game really.

Reina - 6.5
Insua - 6
Carragher - 6.5
Skrtel - 8
Johnson - 6
Lucas - 5
Mascherano - 6
Gerrard - 4
Kuyt - 4
Riera - 4
Torres - 4

Reina - 7 - played well.. made a lot of chelsea's chances look like easy saves. positioned wel throughout the game and held onto a few tricky shots that would probably have caused other keepers some problems.
Insua - 6 - i thought he played well.. attempted to get up more - Reira was useless and didnt help at all. Nobody stands a chance against Drogba's strength and they did target Insua a bit during the game but when the ball was on the ground he did a decent job.
Carragher - 6 - a lot better than recent attempts. hoof ball came out. As ive mentioned before without Alonso in the centre this is going to be something we should probably try and get used to.
Skrtel - 7.5 - some terrific challenges and didnt get completely slaughted like i expected after his recent displays.
Johnson - 6 - tried.. didnt really happen *what was the booing about?* didnt he leave because he was getting ZERO games.. its almost like us booing Warnock.. pointless.
Lucas - 6.5 - i thought he played well... got stuck in and tackled well but similar to Mascherano offers zero stability in the centre of the park. Rarely busts a gutt to make space for himself to receive a pass. Tends to be happy going through the motions but is a lot more competative this season. I dont think he can ever control a game or be the linchpin required in midfield.
Mascherano - 7 - tackled well.. attempted to create and pick the ball up deep. Doesnt have the ability to do this effectively. its unfortunate as both our midfielders can tackle but left any creative play to our fullbacks who were given limited options.
Gerrard - 4 - never got into the game. attempted to get involved in the first half but the play kept on bypassing him via long balls to Torres. Torres doesnt really hold the ball up he prefers to run at players- which when on form is one of Torres' best weapons. without Torres holding up play the ball generally bypassed Gerrard for the majority of the game
Kuyt - 4 - tried.. never happend- Lucas and Mascherano rarely provided an outlet so options were limited and often ended up with Johnson, Gerrard, Kuyt trying to pass to each other 2 yrds apart.
Riera - 2 - Woeful. im a big Riera fan but this was shocking. other than that freekick everything he did was in slow motion. he left Insua to deal with the majority of attacks. looked to have a top speed similar to Neil Ruddock at his burger king best. Similar to Kuyt on the otherside passing options were limited to either back or forward down the line. Our midfield offered very little in support.
Torres - 2 - had a shit day. not all his fault. i have never considered him a striker with a great ability to hold up play and wait for support. against shit defenders he can probably cause a shitload of problems when isolated. When playing against two dirty fuckers in Terry and Carvalho was only going to get kicked about and tackled. The long balls up to him are frustrating. i hate to see someone with as much ability as Torres having to challenge pointless hoof balls. Even if he wins them there is nobody around him and defenders love the opportunity to get stuck in. i think he called the referee a fucking nob at one point which was frustrating - he should just shut up and get on with it.

Rafa - didnt work out for him- one could argue that in some games he doesnt have the personnel to do what he would like - but he only has himself to blame for this.

giving carragher a 6? or even a 6.5? are you people fucking deluded!! carragher is the reason we have lost 3 games already this season! he played like ass last night and cost us 2 goals.. his rating should be a fucking 0

1st half & 2nd half ratings.

Reina - 6.5 + 6 - saved what he should have saved and could maybe have done better with both goals (a bit harsh but he made no difference in the end)

Insua - 6.5 + 6 - faded after a good start. In big matches like this Aurelio should be a definite starter.

Carragher - 6.5 + 3 - people are being too generous because it is Carra. He made two mistakes thaat cost two goals (the second one was horrendous and if it had been anyone else but Carra they would be lambasted on here).

Skrtel - 7 + 7 - thought he had his best match of the season.

Johnson - 7 + 7.5 - I don't understand the negativity towards Magic today. I watched him really closely throughout the match and he hardly put a foot wrong. Some of his defending was first rate - especially against Drogba, heading clear, tackling, blocking off and being in the right place at the right time, and when he went forward he made a big difference. Delightfully stitched Cole up twice. His crossing was maybe the only aspect of his game that was below par today.

Lucas - 7 + 4 - went from having a very good match to being anonymous. You can't hide or relax in matches like this. Same criticism most people makes. He does OK when having to defend but adds little to nothing when needing to be creative in attack.

Mascherano - 8 + 7 - my MoM. The first goal was his mistake - make no bones about it. However he had dominated the midfield up until that point. He will make a big difference to the team again this season. Welcome back Masher.

Gerrard - 4 + 6 - talk of him carrying an injury. The same criticisms remain (deadballs wasted, not making things happen). Looked more involved once he dropped back into MF.

Kuyt - 4 + 4 - basically a waste of space. Made similar mistakes when upfield as he did in his last match, giving the ball away and failing to inadequately support Johnson. Should have been subbed off for Benny after 60 mins.

Riera - 6 + 5 - didn't make a difference although held the ball up well and helped back to support Insua.

Torres - 4 + 4 - Rosco - he had more than one very good chance and should have had at least one goal today. He had an excellent chance but made a hash of his header and then had a glorious chance to equalise but dragged it wide. Had he scored with his best opportunity then we may have even gone on to win the match. Details, details, details.

Rafa - 7 - almost the right team to start (Aurelio for Insua) / right subs (could have been made a little earlier) but in the end this was down to the players.

Johnson did defend ok but his crossing, shooting and taking on defenders were not happening for him yesterday.

Reina 7
Johnson 6
Carra 5
Skrtel 7
Insua 6
Mascher 7
Lucas 6
Riera 4

1 mistake aside that lead to a goal I thought Masher was amazing and if everyone else played at even 70% of his performance today we would have won.

8 for him.

The rest meh.

What else was he supposed to do?

He got booted about by the Chelsea defence with very little to show for his efforts bar a couple of half chances.

Masher, the mistake aside, put in his performance of the season.

This isn't the time for the 'his head has been turned' spiel.

Yeah, I agreed with almost everything else grjt said there, but the Mascher comment seems inappropriate. That mistake aside, he was our best player yesterday.

I though Macsher was by far and away the best player on the pitch. Yes he lost the ball for the first goal ( to a very good takle), but it still had a long way to travel before the goal was scored

Chelsea tried to resign him but he turned them down to join us, hence the booing

The "you're support is fucking shit" was the best, given they'd been out-sung all game by 2000 supporters.

And that they try to copy our support by handing out freebie plastic flags on European nights.

I don't think we have an awful to sing about ourselves when it comes to that.
Anfield is shit these days and our fans are regularly out sung by the travelling support.

Also thought he played really well (bar the mistake) and a couple of "crazy horse" charges up the pitch.

The Barca rumours were a major talking point within the match day entertainment area.....yadda yadda corporate lackeys with too much time on their hands, etc, etc.... but apparently fuelled by conversations with former player.

Oh true, Anfield's desperately quiet at times, we only seem to sing when we're winning these days, but their song was a direct reference to our away support, who sounded fantastic all game. I have no problem with away fans singing it at us when Anfield's dead for a league match.

Our home fans can be a hindrance for the team I think.
Last game I made it to was the Fulham 0-0 last November (i think) and the crowd were a fucking disgrace.
The players were afraid to try something for fear of the crowd getting on their backs. Lucas got a very rough ride that day. We have become snobs to a degree, we want to sit there and watch as our team destroys all put before them. That just isn't going to happen in this league, there are too many quality teams out there now.
