LIVERPOOL have their eyes on Luuk De Jong as a long-term successor to Dirk Kuyt.

The 20-year-old FC Twente forward – also wanted by Spanish side Real Zaragoza – could be winging his way to Anfield at the end of the season.

The Dutchman will be available for £2.5million in June.

Dont dutch strikers usually have to bang in around 500 plus goals a season before they can be considered good enough for anywhere else :p

The fact he is only £2.5m and the competition for his signature is Real Zaragoza tells us all we need to know about this lad.

He wont be good enough.

Hodgson does seem to have decent contacts in Switzerland so there could be something to this.

Whether Hodgson will be here in June is another matter.

It's being reported in the people, when have they reported anything remotely accurate and the lad looks shite to.

price and suiters means nothing. how much was sami when we picked him up, who did we have to see off to secure his signature. the whole point of having talented scouts is you pick up talent cheaply and before anyone else catches wind of them.

Sami had already been rejected when on trial at Oldham Athletic too ;)

You are missing one massive point to the comment you have just made......... We don't have any.

No new news but little nice read from UEFA.com (and a 2+ min video).

Sport is in the De Jong family's DNA. Luuk's parents were both Dutch volleyball internationals and moved from Switzerland to the Netherlands to play the game professionally when Luuk was four. Luuk's brother Siem, one year his senior, plays for AFC Ajax.

Ask De Jong about playing in the UEFA Champions League and he readily admits he almost has to pinch himself to believe it. After making his Eredvisie debut in November 2008 at De Graafschap, he joined Twente last season and having played his part (two goals in 12 games) in helping the Tukkers to their first national title, now finds himself up against Europe's top defences. And the Dutch Under-21 international has more than held his own.

At 188cm he is a handful in the air, scoring his first UEFA Champions League goal with a header against SV Werder Bremen on Matchday 4, and his strength on the ball is invaluable to help bring team-mates into play. The arrival of striker Marc Janko in the summer might have signalled De Jong's first-team opportunities would be restricted, but to the contrary, he has proved his versatility by adapting his game to become an integral part of coach Michel Preud'homme's side. With Janko used as a target man, De Jong has played as an attacking midfielder, but the goals keep coming, seven in Twente's title defence so far.

Pretty underwhelmed by this Luke-link however former rumoured target Brian Ruiz looks an interesting prospect. Probably more expensive too of course.

Luke it is then.

Lets hope he gets a job there. Soon

Anyway to change the title of the thread? :-[

With all the uncertainty going on in the world markets, a stock named "Luuk de Jong" would seem like a great investment.

Twente`s 21 year-old hot property went into the International break after scoring 7 goals in his last 5 matches in all club competitions (9 in 14 for the season), a spell that started on September the 18th. It was more than enough to give de Jong a place in the Netherlands squad for the Euro-2012 qualifying matches against Moldova (unused substitute) and Sweden (to be played this Wednesday).

The rising Dutch star is a versatile attacking player who played many times on the right flank in Twente's 4-3-3 formation. de Jong prefers playing as a central striker, but is equally effective when coming with his face towards goal as a second stiker, the role he usually fullfills in his team. The 1.88 meter talent is a fast player with good dribbling and very good shooting skills, who excels in aerial ability. His jumping and heading skills are of the highest caliber. He still should improve his technique and passing skills.

Together with Austrian Marc Janko – each scored 7 league goals this season – Twente has one of most feared attacking forces in the Eredivisie.

Luuk de Jong was transferred to Twente in the summer of 2009 and on his debut season in Enschede scored 3 goals. He made his breakthrough in 2010/11 providing 16 goals in all competitions, and on February the 9th 2011 was awarded with his Netherlands debut, playing 15 minutes in 3:1 friendly win over Austria. 7 months later, in his 3rd senior International appearance, he scored in the 2:0 win over Finland in a Euro 2012 qualifier.

According to reports from recent days, English clubs Liverpool and Newcastle United are in the hunt for the dutch, with the Mersysiders preparing an offer of €11 million. whether de Jong stays or leaves, one thing is sure - Twente, who paid €500K for his services in 2009, surely made a great deal.
