Reds to bid for Kjaer

From Footy365.com:

The agent of Wolfsburg defender Simon Kjaer insists he was not contacted by Arsenal or Liverpool in the January transfer window, but he has not ruled out a move to the Premier League in the future.

Denmark's classy 21-year-old centre-back was repeatedly linked with the two English clubs in the summer transfer window of 2010, but he opted to sign for Wolfsburg, then managed by Steve McClaren.

The Bundesliga club's struggles in the current campaign, which have cost McClaren his job, have led to reports that they are ready to rebuild and would listen to offers in the region of £10million for Kajer despite his only recent revival.

Liverpool are expected to make defensive reinforcements their priority this summer, while it is understood that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is eager to add some resilience to his backline.

But asked about contact from either of the clubs, Kajer's agent, Mikkel Beck, is quoted as saying by calciomercato.com: "Last summer there were many rumours of a move to Premier League.

"But we decided to sign with Wolfsburg and we are very happy with this decision. No English club has contacted me in January, but England is a country where every player wants to play one day.

"I cannot recommend Simon to go to play in the Premier League - he will decide. In January, I did not speak to any club because at this time Kjaer has no intention of leaving Wolfsburg."

At the same time, former Iceland manager Eyjolfur Sverrisson has signed a contract until June to act as assistant to interim manager Pierre Littbarski, who succeeded McClaren.

Wolfsburg have also agreed a contract extension with back-up goalkeeper Marwin Hitz until June 2013.

'Kicker' magazine's list of Germany's top defenders.

Hummels tops the list with Subotic being in third position.

Maybe we should get both.
I see your beloved Mertesacker weighing in at an impressive #30.
After your infamous efforts in 'that' thread I thought you've put it to rest.

Whatever.

Watched a football match in the last few months, Gene? Or do you still prefer reading stats?
LOL, there's no need to get upset or defensive about it. I didn't mean to embarrass you and I really don't think there's any need for you to try to be mean to me.

But you have to admit there are some inconsistencies in what your saying about players on here. You want us to take this Hummel chap seriously and you tell us to look at some table of stats showing how good a defender he is. But you ignore what the same stats say about another player you want us to buy, Mertesacker. So either you think the stats are accurate or not. Either way, you're being a silly billy.

The bigger irony is that you then criticize me about stats when just a few posts earlier you've tried to make a case for a player being the best defender in Germany, based on....wait for it.... a table of stats!

Believe it or not, I actually saw them play too.

Hummels is ace. I'd have him in a shot and pay 20 mill £. Easy.

Geromel is also a very interesting talent, has done really well this season.

We need a commanding centre back, and we need to buy one this summer. Kjaer is not the answer.

I thank you very much. I thought I was the only one who rates Hummels.

Let's not turn this in to a "i discovered Hummels, me" meme...

Hummels is a very good defender right now and possibly a mega player in the future, and pretty much most football fans would rate him highly as it is.

The same is true for Subotic, and Kjaer to an extent and a handful of other defenders. They are all capable of becoming big players, and each have their own strengths and weakness. So it's not really that surprising that someone might not have the exact pecking order as you do...let's leave this right here.

This is all a moot point, and as someone else pointed out, there are other problems for us to address with priority.

I most certainly didn't discover Hummels and never have claimed to.

I only think he's much better than Subotic and Kjaer. Which you don't. Fair enough. Subotic would be a great buy too. (As would be Mertesacker but that's a different story.)

I don't necessarily think one is better than the other...

consider Feridnand and Vidic....if you would liken Hummels to Ferdinand, then i would say Subotic is similar to Vidic. I just think we need Subotic more than Hummels, but i'd certainly not be found crying if we signed Hummels.

The German press hypes up Hummels a fair deal, but Subotic for me has performed better than Hummels this very season. It is a stunning partnership, anyway....

Just to let you know I'm totally with you regarding Mertesacker. I think he'd be excellent for us and a perfect partner for Agger. With his contract running short he'd also be way cheaper than Hummels or Subotic. Kicker notes don't mean much in his case either as Bremen as a team has been a mess defensively so it's almost impossible to get good ratings but Mertesacker has still been head and shoulders above everyone else(pun intended) in that team and probably the reason they are not deep into relegation zone.

I'm not sure if they would sell even one. They rejected a 20 million pound bid from Chelsea for Subotic.

Hummels has said " Even if i had a release clause that says 2 Euros, i'm not going anywhere"....besides he has a point to prove against Bayern, as they didn't think he was all that and didn't give him a chance. He will not be moving away any time soon.....it is pointless talking about him.

Story in the danish media about Kjaer coming to us with Poulsen + a fee going the other way.

Kjaer himself says its rumours at the moment but he would love to play for us, and his dad and uncle are massive fans.

That would be a boss deal.

The Kjaer one, not Kris popping his clogs like.

He's not that tall. And khl has overhyped him. I'd want a taller, more commanding centre back, and the fact that he's struggled in Germany (probably the closest match to the Premier League in terms of style) worries me.

Although getting rid of Poulsen would obviously be a good thing.

Absolutely boss deal this.

Kjærs got all the right attributes to make it in England.

Had a tough Season with Wolfsburg but it has only made him stronger I reckon. Gone from success to success so a few rough patches has been good for his developments.

Del does not know What he's talking about btw. Obviously.

I said he's not that tall, and you've obviously overhyped him. What's to argue with there?

What do you guys want? NBA beanpoles?
LeBron James.

He's the same height as Vidic. The difference being that Vidic has the obvious advantage of being much better than him.
Of course I've overhyped him but not by much. There's a reason Wolfsburg spunked £10m for a 20-year-old defender. And he's ok tall yet strong build.

Brilliant signing If true. You'll see.

Disclaimer: this is NOT in any way comparable to the Poulsen signing! Promise.

Well of course he is. So far.

He hadnt been picked for the team of the Season in Serie A as a 20-year-old though nor sold for the same ammount of cash (ever) as Kjær mind.

He's a major talent and with improvements he could be a key player for us in years to come. I believe.
