Yeah- credit it where its due. Punter hates losing, like all Aussie sportmen, but he's indaftigable. That was a fantastic effort today.
I fear he's going to get a hell of a slagging from the Aussie old guard though.

For the most part the Australian press are in full support of Ponting continuing as captain.
I'm not sure how good a captain he is tactically, but he's one of greatest batsman of the modern era, and the most competitive man you'll meet.
He's handled himself impeccably through this series and I think English supporters have embraced him more than ever.

Good to hear that as I was a bit miffed why he got slated so much by the Poms after 2005 when I thought he was quite magnanimous in defeat.
As an aside I remember him being dominant in India one series just prior to Waugh retiring and I was still wondering about what type of Captain Punter was going to make. He copped one on the head that drew blood and just stood there and stared back and was getting ready for the next ball until someone suggested he get some treatment.
Never had any doubts after that.

That's because he has no other option... the Australian team he got now is nothing compared to before.
Aussies can't go around saying shit like we're gonna win 5-0 because it's just not gonna happen.
Australia could be cocky pricks before, but not now - and I LOVE IT.
You should have seen Stuart McGill, Greg Matthews and Damian Martyn in the SBS coverage here in Oz.
"Australia this, Australia that... we're gonna win 5-0..." ... should have seen their faces when England won the series.

As a batsman, there is none better than Punter, which is why us English hate him so much, because he's so hard to get out once in.
Plus, the main reason we hate him was for his moan in 2005 when the substitute fielder ran him out. Forgetting it was actually the Australians that were past masters of using the subs to their advantage. And that face where he always looks like he's chewing a wasp. Take nothing away from him though, that's two series defeats in England, and two series where he's picked up battle scars to try and prevent it.
I thought Shane Warne conducted himself impeccably in commentary, as did Jason Gillispie on TMS.
