Sorry for hi-jacking the thread but happened to come across this. 😛

Milan Baros probably has a better record than both Keane and Charlton but I wouldn't put him over either of them

Baros stupid player

Doesn't even know the words of the anthem, so I can't consider him to be Irish, even if he was the other Keane, Mcgrath and a while host of others rank above him.

International football has become a bad joke in the last fifteen years so any comparisonbetween someones achievements now and forty years ago is disingenuous to be polite about it. Milan Baros probably has a better record than both Keane and Charlton but I wouldn't put him over either of them

And Peter if you think thatwould have worked your a little bit mental

It's 'cool' to rank McGrath higher. Truth is, he was a bigger alcoholic and bigger offender than Keane ever was/is. McGrath was a great no doubt, but Robbie Keane's been the better performer over a longer time. 46 goals and your nearest competitor with 21 is staggering.

He's done it when it counts too.
Did he ever have Baggio in his back pocket for 90 mins?
No, he was too busy scoring 46 goals.

I'm sure the Irish lads have plenty to debate re Robbie Keane, personally couldn't care less.

What shouldn't be up for debate is his International goal scoring record; its exceptional.

I don't get it - Robbie Keane - imperfect but a great servant for Ireland over the past decade. Delivers when it counts, Kashima and Korea come to mind immediately. Slagging him off, is a bit silly.

Rosco, where's all the animus coming from - I thought Rafa was your only bete noire!!

Keane has very rarely done it when it has mattered.

It's no coincidence that when those players you don't rate as better than him for Ireland retired that we stopped qualifying for tournaments.

He's the captain of the team and spent the two nights before a home qualifier with France on the piss. Every return to Ireland is a piss up for him. He doesn't take things seriously and it shows. He's a whiny fucker who tries to blame everybody else for the fact that he's shit.

Harsh. He's scored a few against Liverpool, United and Arsenal over the years. I don't think he's amazing Rosco, though I did want him to do well for us and thought his enigmatic style might have been what we needed, but you aren't half biased when it comes to him.

I don't get some of the Irish lads on here, use hate England, but despise most of your own players even more.

Enigmatic style ?

you mean you can't figure out how he actually scores given his predilection for air kicks ?

Yes Ros.

I used to like the way he could occasionally pull off something sublime (like the volley for us against Arsenal), but anyway. I guess that was down to occasional fortune rather than being any good. Like most of his Oirish goals.

Anyway, imagine if Rafa had gone for Steven Ireland instead of Barry? Ireland feeding Keane from the left, probably.

*runs away*

Ireland is our best ever scorer.

4 games, 3 goals. All in qualifiers. He didn't rack up half of his goals in meaningless friendlies

Ha ha Jesus Christ.

Giles, Brady, Roy Keane are so far ahead of Keane it isn't even funny.

I will agree it is a great record and a fantastic achievement.

But easily our greatest ever?

And you say you know football?

F*cking hell did someone hack your account.

If your counting over time, then its Roy Keane by a country mile but I'm sure you're aware of that.

The problem with Roy Keane is that he walked out on Ireland at a time when he was needed. I felt he never really performed for Ireland the way he did for United.

Whatever way you look at it Robbie's goal return for Ireland is pretty impressive.

However despite this, and I have said it before, he is pretty much unloved amoung the football following public in Ireland. Witness the general lack of enthuasism for his signing among the Irish lads when he came to us.

What has he done to generate the low level of esteem he is held?

I like Keane, just never thought he's work under Rafa.

Count , his lack of professionalism, his laziness, his constant moaning,.finger waving and throwing his arms up in the air - usually when whatever happened was his own fault.

And that interview on the late late where he blamed the media for our failure to qualify.

What did the media do? Report Rafa's constant moaning?

Rosco uses 'going on the piss before an international game' as a reason not to rate keane as our greatest ever international, and in the same thread advocates Paul McGrath.

His International record is there to be seen. A goal every other game, near enough, over 13 years and still doing it.
Like Bellamy , and Crouch I never felt he was given a fair crack of the whip when he was with us to make any real judgement, and when he did score Rafa dropped him. If you tried to break someone's confidence you could not have done a better job.

regards

Seriously, Rafa never understood how it upset players when they played out of their skins only to be dropped a week later with NO explanation.

You're comparing apples and oranges mate. Of course Roy Keane and Paul Mc G were better players, but Robbie has been one of our few bright spots in the past 10 years. He's done enough to be accepted for his strengths and weaknesses. Listen, if I have made peace with Vladimir Smicer ("Replacement for McManaman&quot😉 surely you can go easy on Keane....

Yeah, great player, but not our best ever - not by a stretch Pat.
But Robbie Keane is? ???

Brady?

Roy Keane?

And if you basing it on performing over a long period I would through a number of other players ahead of Keane.
