[article]On Tuesday, mega Brazilian portal Globoesporte have revealed that the chase for Roberto Firmino is between a number of Premier League clubs.

Manchester United could well face competition from local rivals Manchester City, whilst Marcelo Hazan and Richard Souza report from Chile, where Firmino is playing in the Copa America, that Liverpool have “strongly” entered the race.

Globoesporte also add some meat to the bones on Firmino’s move this summer.

The Hoffenheim attacker will not leave “The Village Team” for less than 25 million euros and the destination will only be revealed after Brazil’s participation in the Copa America is over.[/article]

Would he be a replacement for Sterling?

I would like to think that we are actively looking for his replacement and we will do the deal concurrently with selling Sterling.
The more likely outcome is that we will overpay for a one season wonder from last season's premierhip minutes before the transfer window closes

Would he be a replacement for Sterling?

From what I have read he his to be seen more as a Suarez type signing...

When you look at his stats & ability, you can see why...

The Reds are in the market to spruce up their squad for a proper top four challenge next season and are currently weighing up a move for Firmino, who has had 21 assists over the past two seasons in the Bundesliga, only superseded by Kevin de Bruyne, who has 26.

Sigining him probably will depend on whether we sell sterling or not..

I wouldn't say he is a replacment for sterling though.. we have him already.. he is called IBE..

If Ibe is replacing Sterling, who is replacing Ibe?

Anyway, Firmino is exactly the sort of chump we should be signing within FSG's transfer strategy. Young, talented, not 100% proven yet. Someone who can use the club as a stepping stone etc.

Markovic? Maybe we can actually use him in his natural position..

I was going to suggest that...

IBE was probably recalled because Markovic hadn't adapted his game for the prem... hopefully Markovic can kick on next season..

Dont forget we have Origi coming in.. so I see no panic over selling Sterling imho, providing the money raised is spent well

The Firminio fella would be a good start..

The Metro with some amazing insight here:

Hoffenheim’s Brazilian midfielder Roberto Firmino has been declared the perfect replacement for Raheem Sterling if he departs Liverpool by statistics company WhoScored.

The 23-year-old joined the German club from Figueirense in 2010 and has gone on to make over 150 appearances in five seasons, scoring 49 goals in the process.

Firmino, who is currently away with his national side for the Copa America, scored the winning goal in their last warm-up fixture against Honduras last night after netting in the 33rd minute and has been heavily linked with a summer transfer following his impressive form.

According to WhoScored, Firmino is the best player available in the market at the moment, rating him at 7.79 – even higher than Raheem Sterling himself.

The Brazilian started 23 times for his club this season in comparison to Sterling’s 34 for Liverpool but both players managed to score the same amount of league goals, 7. In that time Firmino managed to chip in with more assists, shots on goal, key passes, dribbles AND passes.

So yeah, he’s pretty good.

Perfect replacement for Sterling:

Tiny - check
Runs in a funny way - check
Often disoriented - check
Not a natural goalscorer - check

Put it through the computer, and we have the results:

I'm surprised that no-one signed him last year.

That's what we should have done, though it would have been completely out of character to sign someone quality before we had a chance to tack on an extra £5-10 million unnecessarily.

Good to see so many of yis at the Firmino site lads.
Could be a few days, but look *opens cooler chest*
BEEEEER!!!

Get some rest lads. I'll send one of the lads to trawl twitter for updates in the morning.

Herr Onceared keeps 'accidentally' rubbing up against me and telling me "it's ok, I'll let you away with that one... this time" while giving me a weird wink. I'm going home.

Still hope we sign Firmino though.
