But then Maddock himself won't think twice about sticking the knife in a few weeks time if results go badly. The point is fine but it's a bit rich when it comes from someone involved in encouraging such an overreaction.

Quite. This is actually one of his better efforts, but its relative good sense will vanish into the ether if and when he scents blood.

Bit of a contrast to last year when you gave that halfwit Dalglish a free ride.

Ryan mate, I don't think there's *that* fine a line between being provocative and controversial, and just being a bit of a cunt.

There was a time when the acerbic banter could be every bit as entertaining as the analysis was insightful, but now that the situation has changed and the roastings have by necessity condensed into spats, they just ain't really funny any more.

Any self-respecting and honest fan would not (or should not) have taken issue with the cataloging and deconstruction of Kenny's failures - he was human, he fucked up, he did what he thought was best for the club and on consideration he probably got it wrong - and he'd likely admit his failures as quick as anyone else points them out.

But he has probably done more for this club on and off the pitch than any other living person, and he deserves respect.

Calling him a halfwit just to get a rise out of someone is beneath you, you're better than that

Great post.

Oh, I didn't realise half this thread was gonna be about that post. I should have realised.

I reckon we should update the AUP to read:

Rule 1: Don't be a cunt.

(how to identify if you're being a cunt: everyone is calling you a cunt)

Currently in Florence, having been in Rome, Sorrento, Barcelona and Madrid.

Lake Como tomorrow for the weekend, then Vienna after that.

It's all good man, but boy is it fucking HOT!

40 degrees in Florence - I'm sweating like a paediatrician in Newport

How's you Wiz?

Seems like Iran might be off the cards, for now?

It's a f*cking mess. So much so that I can't be bothered to read about it from any side - both sides should shut up, drink some coffee and have some baklava.

Italy is wonderful but the weather in the summer is horrific. When we were living in Milan, the summer was horrible. 40+ degrees, no AC and lots of mosquitoes. Hell.

Yup, got bitten to fuck.

Since I've been scoffing lemon gelato though it seems to have got better (and I've got fatter)

I've found it better down South near the Med in the past, but admittedly I probably wouldn't choose to travel to Italy at this time of year at all.

...or indeed anywhere in the Northern hemisphere, precisely because I don't like the heat. I spent part of my childhood (including starting school) on Malta, where it's at least as hot (though you do get the breezes off the Med, which help), and I don't remember even noticing the heat, let alone being bothered by it. All that went by the board when we came back to the UK and I now find very hot weather a real trial.

Anyone want to have bet that he uses the hideous phrase 'going forward' more than 100 times in interviews this season. Horrible.

He also seems to say 'work' a lot. Still, I think he's going to be a terrific manager for us. He's the new Klopp. I just hope he gets the time and support to prove it.

You can play Rodgers bingo.

Heavy shirt
Going forwards

There's my two for starters. This could probably do with it's own thread.

Fucking hell. I just saw somewhere that Shankly lost 4-0 in his first game in charge. I guess that means we are all safe then!!!!

Pep Guardiola lost his first game for Barca (and to Numancia!), so it's no real reflection on how things might turn out. He hasn't even been through a full window yet. He's also attempting to play a style of football that is new to these players, or many of them. It'll take time.

The worst thing Brendan Rodgers does is that smile. It reminds me of Jack Nicholson at his psychotic worst in "The Shining".
