He went to Fulham today for 11 million. WTF? The most expensive British transfer outside of the Premiership.

Is he good @Pesam? If he could command a transfer fee of 11 million then why not move into the Premiership?

No idea about the chap but maybe they have decided that investing £11m in him would give them a very good chance of coming straight back up.

They must think so. He did get 28 goals last season.

Odd, I thought all the good Leeds players go to Norwich of late.

I just mentioned him in the "transfer thread". He's excellent Dave and could even be good enough (squad player) for a top 4 team BUT I think £11m is a helluva risk. I suggested we bid £1m when he wouldn't sign his last contract, he had 6 months left on his deal and Leeds said they'd accept £1m BUT there were no offers so he signed a new deal!

He's capable of scoring 30 goals a season (28 last season) but if someone had the sense to pair him with a genuine goalscorer and play McCormack in the Dalglish/Beardsley etc type of role he'll score 20 and make so many more goals for team mates...............he's got superb vision and brings others into the game all the time. Hopefully (for Fulham's sake) they'll play him with Berbatov (lazy fecker but knows where the goal is) and they'll score 50 between 'em.

Berbatov? He's been at Monaco for a while now (not a loan). Now Fulham have that Greek sensation Mitroglou who didn't play much after costing them 12m or something like that.

Is Bryan Luiz still at Fulham?

Yep meant Ruiz. It hasn't worked out well for him so far but he had a decent world cup showing. He's prob a bit too good for the championship.

Ruiz has been at PSV on loan since January. Don't think they want to keep him due to wages though.

He's done pretty okay for PSV on loan from Fulham (he was loaned out for the second half of the 2013/2014 season), scoring 5 goals in 14 games. One suggestion is of course, that it's perhaps got to do with the league. Or it could be Fulham not playing him to his strengths or not using him the way Costa Rica or Fulham does.

This screen grab could perhaps provide some clues. Looking at the last 3 stat items - we can see that Ruiz averaged about 1 shot a game for Fulham and Costa Rica, and almost twice that for PSV. What's different though between Fulham and PSV / Costa Rica, is that he rarely takes his shot inside the box (18.5%). In other words, he makes a shot attempt inside the box for Fulham every 5.5 games.

With Costa Rica and PSV though, the shot opportunities he gets are inside the box 60% to 74% of the time. Correspondingly, his shot accuracy goes up as well, and he scores at a 36% to 40% clip for PSV / Costa Rica, versus a low 8% rate for Fulham. Granted, the sample sizes are really small (especially for Costa Rica in this case as we're just looking at a few WC games), but still, it might give some clues for anyone analyzing why he might be performing at a different level.

Interesting stuff, to me at least.

He was good at Twente. I thought he would do better at Fulham than he has.

Unfortunately, the stats only go as far as 2013/2014 for this case. I'd have liked to see what sorts of shot opportunities he got at Twente (e.g. inside the box versus outside). It could well be that he's flopped at Fulham because of how they've been using him and not because he couldn't adapt to the league or found the league difficult, which seems to be a common and convenient excuse given for someone from another league who fails to fire in the EPL.

The novelty I saw earlier is that Sturridge and Coutinho cost less than mccormack and mitroglu

Surely some bottom half Spanish team will come in for Aspas, its gotta be worth the punt for one of them for a few million.

Wasn't it 16 goals and a fair few assists he got in La Liga before he joined us? madness to go from that to looking so far out of his depth here.

He scored 12 and got 6 assists. That was his first and only La Liga season too. I suppose we could possibly look at newly-promoted teams which get sucked back into relegation fights as somewhat of the same level as the top few second division teams. In that light then, potential buyers for Aspas might well be from the second division as well (where he was actually a 20+ goal scorer... for one season).

Anyway, I think there was a poster not too long ago who was a Celta Vigo fan, and he was sharing a rumour that they were interested in taking him back for half the fee we paid for him.

Very odd, I checked soccerbase before posting to see who Fulham had to pair-up with McCormack and Berbatov is still listed as a fulham player! I haven't seen enough of Mitroglu to figure out whether he and McC would be a good pairing.
