Sack watch

I would question the motivation of any manager who jumped ship to Saudi Arabia straight after his first sacking, and then got sacked again. That butchered his career more than anything he did at Villa. Before then, he would at least have secured a move to a decent Championship club for his achievements at Rangers alone. I've no idea where he goes next. That said, could he do much worse as an interim? There's little evidence that Slot is leading us into the CL places with this squad. It would kill me if the clowns at United had shown a) they had a better summer than us and b) made the right call, making a managerial change, and somehow finished above us. It's a very real possibility. Eurgh! The best-case scenario is we just tell Xabi we're not hanging around for him to take a sabbatical after 2.4 years of coaching. Book a plane, stay in Zidane's house and get your arse to Kirkby!

You clearly have not been paying attention. If the likes of losers such as Bruce, Redknapp, Allardyce, Ange and Warnock can get job after job in the PL then Stevie is a shoe-in for at least a dozen clubs !

Whilst I abhor all forms of gambling, my attention has been drawn to the bookies odds on the next EPL manager to get sacked.
Bookmakers believe Arne Slot’s days as Liverpool boss could be numbered after he was slashed into 1-2 by Hills to be the next Premier League manager to leave their post.

As big as 12-1 on Sunday evening, Slot, who guided Liverpool to the Premier League title in his first season as manager last term, had overtaken Tottenham’s Thomas Frank at the head of the sack-race betting by Monday monring.

Xabi is 10-11 favourite to be the next Coach.

Luis Enrique 6-1
Klopp 8-1
Andoni Iraola 8-1
Oliver Glasner 9-1

i am somewhat heartened by adam clerys video on what went wrong for xabi at madrid, it’s confirmation of everything people have been discussing with some reassurance of his tactical astuteness.

still kind of wary that tactical praise videos were being made about slot a year ago

I actually thought Slot was decent tactically. Until this season when we started going behind every game, and his answer was to merely throw on all the attackers we had off the bench. Against United it resulted in a midfield 2 of Jones and Wirtz from 60 minutes onwards. That day was a big red flag for me.

Tactics aside, I think Slot's bigger issue seems to be lack of personality. There just doesnt seem to be anything in him making the players give that extra 10/20%. He also seems unable to instil a sense of self belief in players. We obviously dont see behind the scenes, but I get the distinct sense that there's a lack of warmth between the players and him. And that disconnect plays out every week on the pitch.

Klopp's relationship with the players could be fiery at times, but there was always this very definite feeling that we had this sort of siege mentality "us vs them" togetherness thing going. Which is all gone now.

The other day I saw a clip of the Nunez goals late on when we turned it around and beat Newcastle 2-1. As he's about to come on the pitch as a a sub there's this intense chest pump from Klopp, basically saying, go fucking get them. That singular moment said so much about what we're missing now.

Hmm so 1 defeat in 16 games across all competitions.

Straight through to the knockout phase of the CL after winning 3 CL games in a row since the home defeat to PSV.

Still in the FA Cup.

In the CL places in the league.

Slot may still not survive but nobody can say he hasn’t turned around what looked like for most on here a completely lost cause.

He deserves a lot more respect and credit that he’s getting on here.

Dreadful run of form followed by the selected last sixteen

Draws and losses are obviously the ones that get the attention and, in this case, rightly so.
  • Draws
    • vs Burnley (1–1)
    • vs Arsenal (0–0)
    • vs Fulham (2–2)
    • vs Leeds (0–0)
    • vs Leeds again (3–3)
    • vs Sunderland (1–1)
  • Losses:
    • vs Bournemouth (2–3j
We have played just one game in the FA Cup, ant home against League 1 Barnsley!
The UCL has gone well, I’ll temper that by pointing out all the EPL teams bar Newcastle qualired direct and the Geordies were close to joining in too

Yes, today was good. Yes we did look to attack a bit quicker but Newcastle were fighting us not sitting back as so many do.

We know where you sit Dreamy. You know where most of the rest of us sit. We all want fun, excitement and success and today we saw a fair bit of that

i wonder why you would choose the last 16 games, maybe you choose 19 games and include how many draws we've had. i have a feeling then it starts to look like some roy hodgson level terrorism.
Because we had back to back defeats before that and everyone said he was a dead man walking.

Everyone is aware we’ve drawn a lot of games or we’d be second not 5th but it doesn’t take away from the fact he has managed to turn things around to a degree. We need to kick on now. Beat City and if we do then we need to be able to go and win at Sunderland 3 days later.

I agree completely that we need to build on it. That's been the problem.

We have had some decent results here and there but they've been followed by poor ones.

Tonight was encouraging as I think we all feared that the decent result in midweek would be followed by a poor one again. It wasn't.

Let's see what happens in the next few weeks, but credit where it's due.

Did you watch it?
Yes. They had a heap of corners and free kicks that we in the most part dealt with well and a few dangerous crosses. Not like Ali was pulling off worldies.

3-0 would also mean we didn’t score the 2 we did or the other big chances we missed.

It could never have been 3-0 at HT never mind being lucky for it not to be. The more accurate question would be how did see 3-0?

Never? They scored. Hit the post, inches going in and Burn got ahead of Virgil and couldn’t quite connect with the ball. That was the fine margins all before we scored. So yes. We could (not should) have been 3 down.

Ali saves the shot if it’s inside the post, Burns can only finish with his head and that would still mean you discount the two we did score and the couple we missed too.0-3 is fantasy stuff.

No he doesn't you can see he wasn't quick enough from the replays. That's not to say I agree with @Momo per se.

IF ..... Barnes had got a tiny bit more curl on that we may have died a death and never got into the positions we did to get two quick, deserved goals before half time. However, he didn't and we did which pleases me greatly. That first half hour though was fucking awful
