Selliott

It isn't rocket science. Villa want to cancel the deal and stop paying his wages but Liverpool have no desire to lose money on this. so there will be a lot of feigned indifference from both parties until they agree a deal or Villa are forced to pay his wages to June 30th when he reverts to us.

Villa have the financial obligation and his registration

The solution is simple, get him as far away as possible from managers who despise the idea of involving young players. His future was never at Villa with the number of players they had in his position, and his future clearly isn't at Liverpool either. With 2 seasons of no football, he should drop back down to the championship and follow the path Carvalho took, because he's going to find it tough breaking in another top flight side.

I'm gonna say it...
Maybe Harvey never was good enough?
Maybe his technique, vision etc isn't good enough to compensate for his size and lack of speed at PL level?

I like the kid, and I think his predicament is unfortunate. But if he was good enough, he'd be playing for either us or Villa.
Slot might be wrong, but both Slot, Emery and to a lesser extent Klopp?

He isn't good enough imo, but Villa were the ones who had signed him and Elliott was the one who agreed to join. We obviously told him he could go, afterwards it's all on him and Villa.

I have also no clue who had structured the deal in such a weird way. It's 35m flat or nothing or at least don't leave a backdoor for Villa to reject him and in the process, waste his entire year by not letting him play. It will be better if we had done a loan with obligation to buy, at least he will still be playing a part in some cup games and is not totally being frozen out.

The situation is a mess, with a bit of blame on all sides.

Villa have screwed him over, but then it wouldn't have been so much of a problem if we hadn't played him in one game for about a minute, presumably knowing he was on his way.

I suspect Elliott himself would have had other options too, and perhaps other clubs would have been able to actually sign up rather than set up a weird loan-to-buy arrangement. He would have chosen Villa.

I do think he is good enough, and I would like him to come back, but I doubt he'll get much of a look in back at Liverpool either, sadly.

I think Harvey screwed himself by not going to Germany

Yes, partly.

Obviously we don't know exactly what offers he had etc but I'd guess that Villa seemed a good option - remaining in the Premier League, a big club, good manager, European football.

You can absolutely understand why, but it certainly seems like a poor choice.

I think he’s a premier league player….hes done well for us, without being outstanding. He was player of the tournament in the summer.

I suspect Villa’s position is more financial than whether he could offer something to their squad (he’s also unfortunate that they are having a very good season and players ahead of him are performing)

Is he really any worse than a Maddison for example? He just needs a manager to trust him to play regularly.

Player of the u21 tournament, and he was one of the older players too.
