Shaking the soft touch tag

Some sort of pun about having a well known member

Okay, this is some shameless plugging for a friend at the Echo, but he makes some good points. We are a soft touch. Without a doubt. We're a squad of largely diminutive fair weather players who can be electric when on song, but roll over and lie on their back at the first sign of adversity. How do we rate our chances at signing some of these players? And is there anyone else that fits the bill? Not once since the loss of Suarez, Gerrard, Alonso, Carragher, Mascherano et al. have I felt that we have replaced their (here's that phrase again...) grit and determination.

To put it more succinctly, we're a bunch of fannies. What, and who, do we need to be more competitive?

I don't think you can coach players to be stronger men. If it's there you can nurture it and, in the case of someone like Deli Alli, channel it, but you can't turn the Stewart Downings of this world into passionate competitors. I guess what you can do is make it very clear that passivity and meekness won't be tolerated - Mark Noble said the other day that, as captain, he'll often deliberately start an argument at the training ground to get a reaction - but Klopp's gone ballistic with this bunch several times already this season and it's had little lasting effect. You have to get different players, as that article suggests.

It's a tricky prospect, as we need strong, aggressive, competitive players who are also pacy, intelligent and genuinely top class in their position, so it's quite a set of boxes to be ticked. And then we've got to pay the big bucks to get them. But that's the only option - we need several new players who'll see in Klopp a kindred spirit, absolutely hate to lose and take it personally when things go wrong.

Don't know about the others but I'd take Romeu in a heart beat. He will only have a year on his contract come the summer. He's a very accomplished DM.

klopp has his eyes on pulic and dahoud in the summer. May have to hope for defenders to sign with leadership.

I'd love a tough nut boss DM. Tough tackling with good quick distribution and a hint of passionate lunacy.

God, that's so...Arsenal.

We don't totally lack bottle but we do need some tough tacklers. If we had had David Luiz and Kante in our team this season then, despite a dodgy keeper and lack of a top goalscorer, we would be top of the league now......................

..................................Ming.............................
............Matip...........Luiz.............Lovren........
Clyne..............................................................Milner
....................Henderson..........Kante.....................
........Mane*.................Firmino*...............Lallana*

Coutinho*

The 4 forwards can be rotated to allow for injuries, suspension, African Nations call ups etc.

So, yes we need a new keeper, left back and a top goalscorer but more than anything we need to unearth the new Kante and buy a reliably tough CB to partner Matip or join Lovren in a back 3.

Yip, we'd probably be top of the league if they allowed us to play with 12 players on the pitch

You noticed that did you? Ok then if you're being such a stickler for the rules...............I'll take Ming out of goal.
