[article=http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24521696?]Liverpool Academy defender Lloyd Jones has rejected a possible Wales future, telling them he wants to play for England instead.

Wales Under-21 head coach Geraint Williams made the announcement ahead of their European Championship qualifier against San Marino on Tuesday.

Liverpool's website describes Jones, who joined their Under-16s from Plymouth in 2011, as a Welshman.

Jones, 18, has played for Wales at Under-17 and Under-18 level.

His decision comes in the wake of Williams stating that striker Tom Bradshaw is no longer available to Wales after the 21-year-old elected to play for Shrewsbury Town instead of playing in the Wales U21 2-0 win over Lithuania U21 on Friday.

[article=http://www.thisisdevon.co.uk/Plymouth-born-Liverpool-defender-Lloyd-Jones/story-19933484-detail/story.html#ixzz2hmecrpFv ]LIVERPOOL'S highly-rated Plymouth-born defender Lloyd Jones is ready to pursue an international career with England.

Jones has played for Wales at under-17 and under-18 level but will not make himself available for further selection.

He is eligible to represent Wales because that is where his father, Gareth, was born.

The 18-year-old former Devonport High School for Boys student signed for Liverpool from Plymouth Argyle in the summer of 2011.

Jones has made excellent progress since then and is now a regular in Liverpool's under-21s squad.

He was also an unused substitute in their final Premier League fixture of last season, away to Fulham.

Wales under-21 manager Geraint Williams said: "Lloyd has made it clear he wants to be picked for England.

"He has not made himself available for Welsh selection.

"He has decided, whether he's talked with agents or somebody else, that his career is moving on at Liverpool and feels he has got a chance of representing England.

"To be fair to Lloyd, he was born in England and his dad is a very proud Welshman.

"I have spoken to his dad and I have spoken to Lloyd but he feels he wants to go down that route."
