So next seasons side then.....

I'm not especially enamoured with our targets, but there is comfort in the fact that Dalglish can get the very best out of some pretty average to good players, which is a relief.

We do need one decent attacking signing and that doesn't seem to be on the cards at the moment. Fingers crossed that this changes by the end of the window.

1) Enough?

2) Happy?

3) Realistic?

If Suarez isn't up front he'd be on the left in that side.

Not really keen on Downing. Think we need another option instead of Henderson on the right.

Maxi deserves a look-in.

I do get a bit annoyed with this "we need a top foreign sexy name" attitude.

Teams win the league with a mix of top english and foreign talent, we don't have to have another big fancy foreign name, we need a quality team that plays like a team.

I am happy with our targets, trust Kenny

I'd go with that Fox, we need a bit more flair though in the final third.

It's not about the 'foreign sexy name'; it's about getting the best available quality and slotting them in a team and formation that works.

I'll put it another way; you have 70 odd million to get a striker,a midfielder, and a winger.

How many on here would choose Andy Carroll, Jordan Henderson and Stewart Downing?

That's what I thought.

That's fair and I bet it would have been different if we had CL football on offer but as it stands it might be the only type of players we're able to attract...
OK, city we're able to get Touré, Silva etc without CL football but they've also got the largest wage budget in England.
So in principle we could get Aguero but we'd have to pay him about £200 000 a week plus a hefty sum to Atletico. Can we afford it?

Granted, it is harder to attract top players without European football.

But as Kenny said, there are a lot clubs not in the CL than there are in it. It just makes the work harder, the issue is whether the club is willing to do the work or is it content to splah huge sums on untried, unproven English players.

As I said in another thread, if our transfer funds are bottomless, then fuck it. The more the merrier.

But I'm guessing that it eventually will be limited, and there is never a justification for poor spending no matter how much money you have. It should also be borne in mind that massive spending without the necessary jump in quality will eventually make it harder for us to comply with FFP (if its ever enforced).

I do get that what I'm talking about is hard, but it should be seen as a permanent policy and the harder we work at it the more often we'll get it right.

If we accepted this scenario, there is no way Suarez would have come to us.

The fucking Scum are lording their '19' over us and the effors one cunt from Mexico who cost them 7 million was instrumental in doing that. They are out there, they're just a lot harder to find.

As I've said many time before, as long as Man U keep winning they can afford to invest in unknown South/North Ameicans and Asians.
They've already got a winning team. We on the other hand are burdened with not having won the title for over 20 years. We've got no leeway at all.
This hole we're in is getting deeper and deeper. Our best players started leaving, we lost our CL place and now we don't even have Europa League football on offer.
We haven't won a trophy for 5 years!

We just have to turn it around this year. This is gonna be one of our most important seasons ever.

On the plus side we've got a title winning manager back, our youth team is ranked among the best in Europe and our owners are ambitious. So from another view point the future looks less dull.

I think we'll only be playing with one winger at a time. Why the fuck do you need two for anyway, one is more than enough. Then we can at least have three central midfielders and suarez in a free role.

There was an article a while back about Kenny's tactics and talking about how he had organized his team in the past. The way we lined up against Everton in the 1989 FA Cup Final would seem to suit us perfectly... one proper winger on the left (Mata?), the right midfielder tucked in and playing more centrally (Henderson? Gerrard? Meireles?) a deep-lying forward (Suarez) off of a target man up front (Carroll) and the full backs pushing forward.

Kenny's shown he'll adapt his tactics to the opposition if needed, but this wouldn't be a bad way to line-up most Saturdays.

-----Mata-----------------------Suarez---------------------

---------Meireles-------Gerrard--------Henderson--------

J.Enrique-------Skrtel----------Carra------------Johnson

Looks good but where's our best player in the last two seasons at?

Lads, lets no worry about the starting 11. It may vary from game to game. Meireles, Lucas, Henderson and Kuyt might all find themselves on the bench at some stage. Same goes for Carroll. I would find it impossible to pick our starting 11 now and we've only signed one player. Imagine how hard it will be come August? Which is a good thing of course. We always complain our bench is weak so if it means Raul or Henderson sit on some weeks then so be it.
