I think I'd pretty much given up when they scored, but what glorious, delirious scenes at the end, as Anfield erupted in a release of tension, nerves and joy.
No, we didn't deserve to win, and yes there's plenty to discuss and be concerned about, but let's do the good stuff first: we fucking won and are back on top of the league. Spurs have now lost 10 (that's TEN) league games, so it's frankly remarkable they're even in the Top 4.
First half was pretty good, Spurs were struggling with a 3-5-2 formation that was designed to push our full-backs into defensive positions and compensate for a lack of CM options, but really did exactly the opposite, as Mane, Firmino and Salah pulled Spurs defenders all over the place, with Robbo and TAA rampaging forward at will and causing chaos. The goal duly arrived from the irrepressible Robertson, who supplied a beautiful cross for Firmino to head home. Only two players have more assists in the league than Robertson this season, and neither are full-backs, which is frankly incredible.
Second half was a fucking horror-show. Pochettino switched up the formation, and Spurs took control. We lacked composure in the midfield and couldn't keep the ball, which allowed the dangerous Moura and Eriksen to start inflicting damage. The equaliser duly arrived after a fortuitous assist from the Dane, and then there were other chances for Kane and Sissoko, before Loris made his calamitous error. We never gave up, but it was bemusing to see Klopp so slow to correct the course of the game with his subs. Still, fuck Spurs and fuck City. Top.
Allison (4) Yikes, all over the fucking place at times, slicing kicks all over the shop, spilling catches and generally looking as jittery as a crackhead in a church. Improved after the break, but needs to get himself back in the Zen-like calm he has exuded most of the season.
TAA (7) Caused Spurs plenty of problems in the first half, and corkscrewed one vicious effort just past the post, put across several dangerous balls and was involved with the lucky winner too.
Robertson (8) Wrought fucking havoc in the first half and his cross for the goal was sumptuous; almost unmissable. Worked so hard and had to put his defensive hat on in the second half as we were under the cosh a bit and threw himself into blocks and tackles to keep them out.
Matip (7) One horrible slip aside, he was largely impressive, having a good battle with Kane and the pace of Moura. Often seems just about to misjudge a bounce or miss a through ball, but extends a long leg to get out of trouble.
Virgil (8) Should have added to his burgeoning goal tally, but was typically nerveless and in control in almost all other aspects of his game. Given a real test in the second half, but showed his brains as well as his physical prowess when he shepherded Sissoko into a futile shot when a goal seemed certain.
Henderson (5) Started well and helped keep us going forward with some good switching of play, but then seemed to lose control of the midfield, with some slack, rushed passing and not seeing danger as quickly as he usually does. He is totally incapable of dictating the tempo, so when we needed to take a breather and shore up the holes, he struggled.
Wijnaldum (5) Lot of industry, but couldn't get a proper grip on the game, and didn't influence it much. Looks like he needs a rest.
Milner (6) The best of the midfield trio, Milner crashed into some juicy tackles and even if his passing was occasionally awry, he at least tried to make things happen, but he's another who looks close to knackered.
Salah (6) Dangerous, and his pace and trickery are always a weapon, but he is still taking one touch too many, or snatching at chances. Should have been less greedy on occasion too. His header caused the own goal, but while it was on target and was clever movement on his behalf, Loris should have easily dealt with it.
Mane (7) At times he was electric in the first half, with some brilliant runs and that searing pace was a nightmare. Should have scored with at least one effort, but was far quieter in the second half. Still our most dangerous player and also gets through a LOT of good defensive work.
Firmino (7) Put the headed finishing touch to that cross, and was sparkily effective in the first half, revelling in Spurs disarray. Probably should have punished them more, but he played well and scored so you can't ask for much more.
Subs:
Fabinho (6) Gave us far more presence when he came on, sniping effectively and using the ball well. Bit strange that he didn't start and showed that he should have.
Origi (6) He's not exactly the most gifted or elegant player, nor is he a good finisher, but if you want someone to come on and leg it up and down the wing and force corners, he's your man.
