1 point behind us with a game in hand having already played us, Utd, City and Arsenal.

How tough a proposition are they going to be this season?

Big Ledley could be out for a while so that's a good boost for us.

They're still our main rival for 4th spot. They have some great players but we have the better squad and hopefully that's what tips it in our favour.

We'll do well to finish ahead of them.
[/quote]

They'll be saying the same thing about us.

Also, it's not like we've a had a string of easy fixtures either - away at Arsenal, away at Everton and home to the Mancs. 7 points from that, not bad.

Definately the only real threat to 4th.

Still inconsistent though and as long as we continue to play as we have been we should make the top 4.

Can we fucking concentrate in winning games against the lower teams first before fucking shout about being above Spurs??

When isn't Ledley out? They have to nurse through a month let alone a season!

Defoe is on fire atm, but he always does this doesn't he? And then he has his barren spell. That said he's at peak age now so he might just have the season of his life.

I wish we'd bought Adebayor, he's quality.

Said this all through summer, he'd improve us massively .

Essentially if we are to have any chance of finishing fourth gerrard and Suarez have got to play every league game left. If we can keep those two fit , we'll have a great chance .

I hope they go far in the Europa League and get distracted with that.

I agree though, our chances hinge on Suarez staying fit.

It's not even because we've bought poor players though, we just still lack that out and out pace and skill either in attack or outwide. Hopefully Bellamy will provide the shortfall when Suarez isn't available, but longterm we still need to invest in a top attacker and then I think we'll be there or thereabouts.

They'll easily amass 70+ points by the end of the season.

I suspect we'll need 72-77 to get fourth this year.

I assume most on here are discounting Arsenal this season. They'll spend again in january and will be thereabouts for fourth imo.

...as long as he feels like turning up, which is usually for about a season, after which he becomes a liability off the field and little help on it. Sure, he's a cracking player on his day, but that doesn't come around (or stick around) enough for my liking. I'd take him as a cheap signing on a one-year contract, but not otherwise.

I don't believe Spurs to be a real contender to be honest. They'll slip soon enough.

I'd have thought that a season or two ago, now with VDV, Modric, Bale, Adebayor and Defoe they've got a great attack with alot of variation and invention.

Very good players that indeed. But I just don't think they've got what it takes at least mentally to stay in top gear.

They've got Europe to think about as well and with a few players openly wanting away pre-Season I don't think a lot has got to go wrong before they'll fall apart.

forget europe, spurs have.

Our biggest advantage over any of the other teams aiming for the top 4 places is that we will play one game a week for most of the season. If we are playing a weaker team followed by a top team we could give a key player 2 weeks rest.

Of course we would still need to beat the weak opposition, but I think we have what it takes in the squad now.

i think it'll be a tight race between us and spurs - i don't think arsenal will make it, personally. too many problems.

we really have to make the CL this year, though, after the money we spent, and the lack of european distractions. something's gone seriously wrong if we don't.

Yup. The only issue is the other way, when there are breaks and Internationals we lose momentum. Playing twice a week can make you gel quicker as a side, as we saw in the season we finished 2nd, towards the end of the season we were brilliant in both competitions.

I wonder what Henry and co expect of Kenny this season ?

Surely a top 4 finish is a must given the backing he's had since he's been here - although I suppose Suarez and Carroll where out of his control..
