49 - David Moyes continued to tinker with his United team. He made eight changes for the Newcastle match and has now used a unique starting XI in 49 games.

6 - Aleksandar Kolarov set up another goal on Saturday. The Serb has made six assists this season, more than any other defender in the league.

38 - Felix Magath has been keen to make the most of his squad since taking charge of Fulham. The German made three changes to the team that lost to Everton, including a second debut for Mahamadou Diarra in his second spell at the club. Diarra became the 38th player to be used by Fulham this season, a record for the Premier League.

Up to a point (losing Koscielny has played havoc with their defence), but mainly it's having too many tippy-tappy midfielders in an unbalanced squad lacking quality options in more than one position, including midfield itself when it comes to the nitty-gritty defensive stuff. It's also been said that they lack leaders on the pitch, but that's no more true now than it was earlier in the season when they were doing well, so I don't reckon that's the reason.

Nope all down to losing Ramsey and Walcott

I don't think they're tippy-tappy enough, to be honest. They're really really struggling right now to keep possession and then to put the killer ball in. Their penetration is nothing like the Wenger teams of old.

Successful penetration gets more and more challenging with age.

Agreed - they are definitely not a tippy-tappy team any more. Playing with Arteta AND Flamini is killing them. Arteta is so immobile that Flamini is having to fill the gap left between midfield and attack which no team needs. They don't have anyone who seems competent out wide. Cazorla drifts inside and doesn't track back. Oxlade wants to play through the middle. Rosicky plays down the middle.

They have no bottle and no energy. They seem defeated when they walk onto the pitch.

I'd love us to make a raid for Ramsey.

Rafa wanted him and he was reportedly available for a couple of mill.or so at the time, but Parry and the board wouldn't sanction the deal.

I thought it was more the case that every top team made a play for him but he chose Arsenal. The deal was only 5M plus addons if I recall. I'm not sure we can blame Parry for this one unless I'm way off base.

You could well be right. My info.came from a guy who worked for one of the accounting firms in Liverpool but I don't know if they're the club's accountants or anything.

really interesting stats - surprised arsenal spend so long at the top, forgot they had a great start. what happened to them? injuries?

Wenger has lost it, he's told them all he's leaving at the end of the season, and most either want out or have lost interest.

Figures like that are insane, they have no bearing on reality. I saw another one that said we had 500M+ and United 600M+

Some of these fanbase figures being quoted are surely nothing more than extrapolations from polls in major cities. Whereas in countries such as those in Asia you simply can't employ that sort of statistical assumption. There is no way in the world that Liverpool have 500m+ fans and no way in the world United have 600m+ fans (or even 374M), these are figments of some pollist's imagination.

I have lived in China for the past 20 years (and before that in Europe & Africa) and can state as fact that the majority of people in Asia or Africa have no interest in football whatsoever (except when their own country is involved, in some competition or other, out of nationalistic pride) and have probably never even heard of United or Liverpool, let alone Chelsea, Arsenal, City or other PL teams who are far far away in the rear-view mirror. Living in Shanghai, a city of 23-25m, I can tell you for a fact that if 1% of the population was a 'fan' of any PL club then that would be a severe exaggeration of reality.

Realistically there is probably a global fanbase of between 50-70m for both United & Liverpool, this is surely more accurate and definitely still something to be proud of (and something no other PL team can come even remotely close to).

I remember fans in Singapore and Malaysia being roughly equal during the tours by MU and LFC. Whilst the others were far far behind.

-Injuries
-Wenger only having one way to play which used to work against most teams but it seems the top 6 have worked out how to combat that plan
-lack of pace excluding Walcott in the top 5
-wingers leaving the full backs completely exposed, full backs who are already hell bent on being very attack minded
-Top 4 is enough syndrome ? Is the mindset to accept that top 4 is like winning a cup affecting how they approach every single game?

Considering the strength of those Chelsea and Real squads that isn't very good ( 5 losing semi-finals and no finals) !

Ryan will not be happy!

To be fair he's got the players capable of tactical changes without having to change the personnel which helps a lot. Which is credit to him as well, I imagine his coaching over the last two years have really helped them do that.
Next season I imagine there'll be a whole lot of changes made to the match day squad with us playing in 4 competitions, plus a lot of the players might be a little knackered after the World Cup.

Helps the fact that for a majority of the season we had players injured in key positions, combined with the ones who were fit, being absolute shite in back up

I looked back a week or two ago, Rodgers has failed to change his starting XI in only 5 games, maybe 6 now. He changes the team a lot, just not as many players each time.

All of these stats comparing Moyes' first season to Fergie's are just a joke as Fergie didn't inherit the defending champions and have a substantial transfer kitty.

If it helps persuade the fans and board to keep him in for another season then that's fine with me though!
