So what are people's hopes and expectations for SG next year? In theory, he could be rejuvenated, and ready to give us a couple of top quality years after a couple of years ravaged by injury, and blowing hot and cold.

I have an inkling (and I know this isn't everyone's brand of vodka) that he might be used on the right of a 3 behind the striker next season. What do you guys think? Where's he gonna play, how's he gonna do?

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for your inventive thread title.

Some really lazy shit going down around here lately.

I don't know where Stevie will play, but I believe he'll be fucking bad-ass !

We shouldn't be putting any pressure on him considering that he's 31. We can't expect him to carry us now but I do believe this time off has done him tons of good. He might just have a very good season.

With regards to how he'll play, well thats just impossible to know right now with him coming off a season like hes just had.

If we're signing Adam and either Ming or Aqua will be with us, i'd like to see him playing as our DM. Personally taking into account his age and our other CM's, i think it would have a nice balance about it.

------------Carroll------------
Downing------------Suarez

-----Adam-------Ming/JH/Aqua

-----------Stevie-------------

31 is just about prime time for midfielder ! Ask Xavi.

Except he's never been disciplined enough to play there in the past and we'd be losing one of our prime strike / creative forces.

Wouldn't mind seeing him at RM at all .... thought he was great there but so long as he's on the pitch I'm happy !

Yeah point taken FF.

Still how much longer can he carry on playing in that role in the manner he has done in the past?

It seem we're going to have a few options that can play in that position this season (+ do well there), and personally i think Stevie would be a superb player in sitting front of the back four and kicking off our attacks with the passing range he has.

I don't think he'll play a full season, but I think for once it's a sort of luxury for us, a couple of years back the prospect of uncertainty with our captain's fitness would have been a nightmare to contend with, now it almost seems a bonus if he's available, I bet he loves that too.

Anyway, behind the striker, none of this 'dropping into midfield as he gets older' bollocks, because he's proven too many times that he just wants to be everywhere, which makes the midfield a bit too vulnerable.

IMO there's too much we don't yet know for us to be able to make a forecast about this. Who will we buy? What's the overall plan? How might Stevie's physical state and mental outlook have changed, even if he is fully physically fit? We're also assuming he'll fill one particular role, whereas it wouldn't surprise me to see him played in a variety of ways in a variety of positions.

One thing IS for sure though, and that's the fact that we have the best possible guy making those decisions.

Yeah good points mate.

I hope to God he's fit and stays fit. I get the sense his desire is as strong as ever. As for where he will play, i can see him slotting into a number of different roles according to how Kenny sets us up, the opposition and the inevitable injuries, especially to Carroll. I don't think he'll have a settled season in one position but i think he'll deal with that better than he sometimes has done in thr past. Huge season coming up for the skipper.

Huge season for Gerrard coming up. Make or break as far as the rest of his career is concerned.

If he can get fully fit and firing then what a weapon he'll be for us.
