Corrected that for you.

Well I can only stretch my mind back since you came back here after you flounced off. So it's been going on since then.
I have to agree.I did wonder why you contribute so little to this forum these days. Trolling must be terribly draining. All I'll say about Gerrard is that I praised him many times last season when I felt he deserved it, and I also criticised him, like many others did, when I felt he deserved it. Funny how some remember one but not the latter, it's almost as if they're doing it deliberately. In this World Cup all the hype about Gerrard's new role has sagged like a leaky balloon. In an emperor's new clothes style, we've been told for months how he's the English Pirlo. Well, they stand in roughly the same place. That's pretty much it.
Gerrard didn't help. Morrissey would be more upbeat than him at times like this.

I don't think you've been unfair in your criticisms of Gerrard, for what it's worth. Re: the bit in bold, don't you think that's more about the manner in which 'we' have conversations about football in this country? It's almost always about hype, narratives, passion blah blah blah. Gerrard should never even have been compared to Pirlo or expected to do the same job - again, leaving aside the fact that he palpably has different qualities, he doesn't have the same set up in front of him, so how can we have the same result? The way England speaks about football is stupidly over-simplified bollocks; people looking for simple answers and simple explanations for everything. That's why we like scapegoats, that's why we like people like 'Arry, people with 'passion' and John Terry chest thumping shite.
He looked like the same frightened child that played against Crystal Palace. Anyone looking to him for inspiration yesterday would have thrown in the towel.
In fact it is not even a stage. It's just a stadium where you show up and do your job to the best of your ability. Only fantasists like Hodgson think of it as a stage for them to perform on as though its some sort of play.

I find him a real enigma. Sometimes he seems so intelligent, in a footballing sense, and other times he seems clueless. In isolated moments, when a ball comes to him and he has to make a quick decision about how to use it, he can be absolutely inspired. You can watch those occasions again and again and what he does looks more and more intelligent and insightful. But in terms of the bigger picture, reading a game as a whole, and acting to control it, like ideally a captain should, he sometimes doesn't seem to know what's going on. That's why I'd be surprised if he makes a good manager. But then again, after a match he'll list all the things that had gone wrong as if it was obvious to him all the time, which only begs the question: 'Well, why didn't you try to change it??'
I've had the idea for a while now, that between Gerrard and Carra, the latter will likely be the more successful manager, while the former the better youth coach. I think Gerrard would be nice to have around in a Academy / reserves role where he can inspire youngsters and coach them on technical skills without having to be too worried about tactics, but when it comes to the brainwork and discipline at the senior level, I think Carra would fare much better. Just a hunch anyway.
Whadda this mean?
I haven't been contributing much due to my final year of uni really, that's about it. Think that's the first time I've ever been called a troll...
Anyway, I don't want to have a go, I like you as a poster. I just get pissed off when people have a go at Gerrard - it's a touchy subject caused by the people (?) on RAWK and a few other people I know. Yeah he's not a world beater in this role, but that's to be expected really.
Still at uni? Bless.
Not any more. Finished now.
Not sure if you're having a go or not.
Does anyone else get really wound up with university being called 'uni'? ('Anyone...er...?') It used to be the aural equivalent of dad dancing, nearly always said by middle class parents as their kids scowled and looked heavenwards. Now it's pretty much standard. It's still like chalk on a board to me!
I work in one, and nobody, from fresher to the vice chancellor says university, unless announcing the title of their institution. Uni it is.
