Manchester United are bracing themselves for a three-pronged bid from Barcelona, AC Milan and Inter Milan for Nemanja Vidic.

Claims that the Serbian defender is unsettled continue to circulate.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson told Vidic, 27, he would not be allowed to o when reports of an imminent offer from Barcelona began – but the European champions still hope a deal can be sealed.

Barca have been given encouragement by sources close to the player suggesting Vidic wants away because his wife, Ana, does not enjoy living in England.

That has also alerted both Milan clubs that United are faced with the prospect of having an unhappy player.

Vidic has become a cult hero with the United fans since his £7m arrival from Spartak Moscow in January 2006.

He was the club’s player of the year last season and he still has almost three years left on his contract.

Vidic, who is currently sidelined by a calf injury, remains key to Ferguson’s plans for the new season. But the emergence of young Irishman Jonny Evans last season and the consistency of Rio Ferdinand could prompt a change of mind.

Wes Brown (right) is also close to full fitness after a season spent battling injury, while John O’Shea and Gary Neville can also play at centre-back.

Ferguson will hope that he can keep any suitors at bay until the transfer window closes in a fortnight.

But Barcelona have made it clear to Vidic’s advisers that they will be back again in the New Year if they fail to land him this month.

Wow. That'd be a massive loss to them.

Please, please, please go to Barca & help them win La Liga.

Killing two birds with one but very talented ugly defender.

Re: Manchester United bracing themselves for big money bids for Nemanja Vidic

Gianfranco Zola’s spectacular reign as West Ham boss could be about to end.

The Hammers manager will not sanction the sale of his key players before the transfer window closes at the end of this month.

Icelandic owners Straumur have demanded the immediate sale of key men like Carlton Cole, Mark Noble, Matthew Upson, Robert Green and Scott Parker to meet mounting debts.

Zola and chief executive Scott Duxbury are embroiled in a war with the board.

Duxbury is seen as a particular problem because he is so closely aligned to Zola and the project of mixing home-grown players with some big-name internationals.

The pair are pushing hard for new strikers and are totally opposed to the sale of star men.

Straumur, the financially stricken parent company, are happy to raise funds by selling key members of the playing staff before sanctioning a takeover of the Premier League club to generate much-needed funding for their business.

A Middle East consortium withdrew its interest in the club after discovering what Straumur intended to do. A spokesman for that consortium said last night: “The club are in a state of complete disarray.

“The key personnel at the club like Zola, Duxbury and coach Steve Clarke appear to be at war with the board.

“Our interest in the club came to an abrupt end when we discovered what Straumur were intending to do.â€

Zola’s future, and that of his close ally Duxbury, remain in the melting pot.

Boardroom battles at Upton Park have reached breaking point and show no sign of subsiding.

Zola and Duxbury have maintained that they can generate enough cash by selling fringe players including midfielders Nigel Quashie, Luis Boa Morte and Julien Faubert, and even injured striker Dean Ashton.

But the asset management group, who bought the club in June, is in the middle of a restructuring process and has demands to meet from several creditors.

And they insist the sale of key players in the West Ham squad is non-negotiable and will go ahead regardless of the consequences.

The news will undoubtedly come as a stunning blow to Hammers fans just a day after they got their Premier League season under way with a 2-0 victory at Wolves.

The sale of key personnel could see West Ham fighting for survival this season and lead to fears about their immediate Premier League future.

Zola was seen as a high-risk appointment when he was handed the job last September.

He had no managerial experience, but the fact that he persuaded his old friend Steve Clarke to leave Chelsea and be his assistant was critical to the move.

Zola has won over the Hammers’ players with his deep knowledge of the game.

Clarke provides the experience, coaching and tactical nous.

As a unit, they have made an impressive start to their West Ham careers.

Their team has played in the attractive manner expected by Hammers’ supporters.

Vidic mentioned this a couple of months back, and because he's a straightforward kinda guy approached Fergie and let him know about it. Getting himself a nice payrise in the process.

I doubt he'll go now.

Luis Figo and Patrick Vieira on Notts County hitlist as Sven Goran Eriksson targets stunning signings

Sven Goran Eriksson is poised to dip into his famous contacts book to pull off a stunning signing for League Two Notts County before the end of the transfer window.

Eriksson, made the club's director of football after a summer takeover, has been told money will be no object to get an A-list signing from Italy or Spain.
Luis Figo

Blockbuster signing: Luis Figo

His former Lazio player Pavel Nedved and Luis Figo are both being sounded out to see if they will make a U-turn on retirement and the clubwould also find the funds for Inter Milan's Patrick Vieira.

County want to make three high-profile signings in the next fortnight and have already offered ex-England defender Sol Campbell a mouthwatering offer to reject Premier League offers to move to Meadow Lane.

But the club's new Middle East owners, Munto Finance, also hope to sign a marquee name from Europe to show their ambition of reaching the Premier League is serious.

County were buoyed on Friday that they were able to persuade Peter Schmeichel's son, Kasper, to join them from Manchester City on a five-year deal.

Aston Villa line up £7m swoop for Blackburn star Stephen Warnock

Aston Villa are weighing up a £7million move for Blackburn Rovers defender Stephen Warnock.

Villa boss Martin O'Neill has already splashed out on Stewart Downing and Habib Beye and wants owner Randy Lerner to finance a move for a centre-half and left-back.

But the American may want squad players like Nicky Shorey, Nigel Reo-Coker and Luke Young sold before any moves are made.

So serbs also hate it in england?let me guess it rains to much or some shit?oh wel happily see the back of vidic wit the 'emerging' irishman as a replacement ha.and nevile can play there..wes brown is always comin back from an injury.i hope vidic goes that would be awesome

Manchester United challenge Liverpool with plan to lure Ryan Shawcross back to Old Trafford

Sir Alex Ferguson could thwart Liverpool's interest in former Manchester United central defender Ryan Shawcross by taking him back to Old Trafford.

The United manager is aware Liverpool have been in contact with Stoke City about the 21-year-old Chester-born six-footer and is keeping a close watch on developments.

But the Merseysiders'hopes of signing Shawcross were dashed when they discovered United had retained first refusal on any possible future deal involving the player, who first joined Stoke on a six-month loan in August 2007.

The deal was made permanent in the following January when Stoke agreed to pay £1million with a further million if they achieved promotion.

Since then Shawcross's value has soared after impressive performances helped them consolidate their Premier League status last season.

Liverpool, Aston Villa and Fulham are all ready to challenge Everton for Newcastle United centre-back Steven Taylor and spark a bidding war.

And the indications are that owner Mike Ashley will cash in on another of previous manager Alan Shearer’s “must keep†players with interested clubs being told to expect a £10million price tag.

The England Under-21 captain’s future has been thrown into doubt following his description of the club as “a jokeâ€.

Everton boss David Moyes is set to lose £20m-rated Joleon Lescott to Manchester City, so made the first move for Taylor, who insisted he would not ask for a transfer despite the Magpies’ relegation.

But after the failure to appoint interim boss Alan Shearer as permanent manager this summer and the sale of stars like Obafemi Martins, Habib Beye and Sebastien Bassong, Taylor’s loyalty has been pushed to breaking point.

Moyes has targeted 23-year-old Taylor as Lescott’s replacement, but his interest has alerted a host of other Premier League clubs to the fact that Taylor could now turn his back on Tyneside.

Everton initially thought they could land Taylor for £6m, but were quickly told Newcastle would start the bidding at a minimum of £8m. Now with Taylor’s disenchantment with life at Newcastle out in the open, long-time admirers Liverpool and Aston Villa will join the chase for one of the Premier League’s most sought-after young English defenders.

And with UEFA proposing to introduce competition rules stipulating home-grown player quotas, Liverpool ,Villa and Fulham are all looking to increase the the number of English players on their books.

Liverpool have been tracking Hull’s Michael Turner, but have stalled at the Tigers’ £10m tag and view the robust Taylor as a perfect replacement for now departed Sami Hyypia.

Villa boss Martin O’Neill has had Taylor regularly watched over the last 18 months and marked him out as a target before buying pal James Milner from Newcastle a year ago.

Fulham would appear to be outsiders for Taylor’s signature.

Roy Hodgson, who expects to land another Toon star Damien Duff in a £4m deal this week, has pencilled in the Newcastle man as back-up should he lose Norwegian centre-back Brede Hangeland to Arsenal.

LIVERPOOL have made a cheeky enquiry about Aston Villa’s young star James Milner.
Anfield boss Rafa Benitez is a big admirer of the emerging England winger but has received little in the way of encouragement.

Milner cost Villa £12million from Newcastle last August and has three years left on his contract.

And Villa manager Martin O’Neill has no intention of selling one of his prize assets.

Milner, 23, made his debut for the full England side against Holland on Wednesday and set up one of Jermain Defoe’s two goals in the 2-2 draw.

Liverpool set to triple wages of Javier Mascherano to ward off Barcelona interest

Javier Mascherano will be handed a triple-your-money contract as Liverpool look to keep the Argentina captain out of the clutches of Barcelona.

Anfield boss Rafa Benitez has revealed that he wants talks about a new £90,000-a-week deal to begin immediately after having a number of private meetings with Mascherano.

The 25-year-old wanted the opportunity to speak to the Spanish and European champions after Barca coach Pep Guardiola earmarked him to be his new midfield enforcer.

But Benitez told Mascherano that he would not sell him to the Catalans because he could not compromise Liverpool’s team further after allowing Xabi Alonso to move to Real Madrid.

Mascherano’s current contract – which still has almost three years to run – is worth about £30,000 a week.

That puts him towards the lower end of Anfield’s pay structure and has become a source of contention for the Argentine after Benitez warned Barcelona that it would cost them a minimum of £50m to land their man.

Mascherano wants a pay deal to reflect his value in the transfer market – and Benitez has told Liverpool’s owners that they must now bring him much closer to £120,000-a-week top earners like Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres.

Benitez said: “I think now is the time to speak to Javier about a new contract. He still has a lot of time on the contract he signed, but I told him that once he came home from the national team then we would talk again.

“Mascherano became unsettled and I had to sit him down to explain that we didn’t want to sell him.

“I can understand why he wanted to listen to Barcelona because they are a top side, a club who won three titles last year. It was not an easy time for him.

“But he knew from the first day that we would not sell him. He is an important player for us.

“I showed him from the beginning how important, signing him from West Ham on loan and then buying him even after he went to the Olympics.â€

Benitez added: “We knew that Alonso would probably leave back in April and when his agent came to see us on May 15 we knew it was a certainty.

“Xabi wanted to leave and although we wanted to keep him, once he asked for a move it was clear the only thing we could do was get the best price for him.

“With Javier it has been different. Barcelona’s interest has been through rumours, making him unsettled.

“That made it easier to communicate with him and I tink he needed to hear that we just wouldn’t sell.â€

We should definitely be in for Noble if he's available on the cheap. Perhaps even Cole (who's really improved over the last year and could make good enough back-up for Torres).

ANDRIY VORONIN SET TO GO
Liverpool ace set for £3m Hertha Berlin switch

NOTW

16/08/2009
LIVERPOOL'S Andriy Voronin finally looks set for a £3million move to Hertha Berlin.

The Ukraine striker spent last season on loan with the German side in the Bundesliga but a permanent move broke down over his hefty personal terms and he is now back at Anfield.

However, Hertha contacted Liverpool last week to reopen talks and indicated they are prepared to make a new £3m bid.

Anfield boss Rafa Benitez is short of striking options but would cash in on the 30-year-old to boost his transfer kitty ahead of deadline day.
