Super Mario

He's 24 years of age (anybody else shocked by that or just me??) - even if he sits on the bench for us for 3 years, we'll still get close to that 17M back.

That's been my argument throughout. His price is close to rock bottom right now and his potential is huge. I'm not saying it's not risk free, but Balotelli represents the best option in a limited market. That's been clear for some time.

He's fucking rubbish more often than not.

He's also the laziest moaniest striker I've ever seen live.

Wouldn't fit our game plan and work ethic at all.

Massive no thanks.

And again folks, the above is coming from someone who 6 WEEKS AGO SAID WE SHOULD SPEND 10 MILLION ON TORRES.

Who is going to give us 17m back though if he doesn't work out?

If Milan are getting shut for what appears to be a reasonable price now, a year or two and another club down the line means his price will have to be even more... reasonable.

Big risk.

I think living in Liverpool is a compromise worth making if it means you don't have a new manager every three months, and don't need to play with Sulley Muntari.

Mate, Italy's number 9 who's played for just about every top club in Europe and will likely be 26/27 years old by then will fetch 15M easily.

There's about 5 strikers I'd rather have than Balotelli, but there's not a chance in hell that we'll sign them so yeah I'm desperate.

I've just been checking his record at Milan - has anything actually gone much wrong for him there? He's had a solid 1 in 2 rate there over a decent period.

Perhaps he's actually already started to settle down a bit? I'm not actually aware of him having any trouble there... not saying he hasn't but they might just be selling him because the club's in a right state.

My Milan supporting friends want him sold because he gets himself in trouble on the pitch and because he just doesn't seem to be arsed.

fuck it , why not , lets do this , it will be a laugh until the cops are called .

Maybe if he comes, we can send Gerrard around to welcome him and whisper in his ear, "Look, if you score 30 goals, Barca and Real will come for you."

Loan move will be a good idea. Permanent move, I'm not so hot about, but only because he's such a distraction for the manager and staff. My impression is that he's never really been a disruptive force in a team but rather more of a little rascal or irritation for management to contain mainly with his off the pitch antics and occasionally with his on the pitch pouts.

On the pitch, he can have days when he's great, or days when he decides he wants to be a child and play in his own sandbox. If we can take him out of that sandbox mode and get him to play in the common playground more often for a few years, who knows - maybe we can actually be able to pack him off to Spain one day with a wad of colourful euros in our pockets.

There's shades of Dennis Rodman here. For those unfamiliar with NBA basketball in the mid/late 90's - when Rodman was at San Antonio (coached by Bob Hill at the time), he impressed and won the fans over initially, but then turned into a disruptive force in the playoffs and was packed off to Chicago in exchange for peanuts after the season.

Here, he came to be coached by Phil Jackson, and played with Jordan and Pippen, superstars whom he'd previously been a fierce adversary of during his Detroit days. Somehow, the trio managed to get him to buy into their common objective, and while he still had his off-the-court shenanigans, he mostly just went out and did his work and be the rebounding force and defender they needed on the court every game. Three straight championship rings later, he went to the Lakers for a year (that was before Jackson joined them) and was released after only 20-odd games. Then he went to Dallas, got waived, and fell away. Detroit under Chuck Daly (before San Antonio) and Chicago under Phil Jackson managed to get him to focus on being good on the court without trying to convert him into some altar boy.

And Balotelli really, is like a novice in the bad boy act compared to Rodman. So, who knows, maybe there's hope.

Well we probably thought along similar lines re. Luis after Evra and his 2nd bite. If we have him for 2-3 years and he keeps up his 0.47 goals per match then we'll be laughing and can even let him go on a free if it comes to the worst.

The difference is that Suarez delivers on the pitch. He doesn't go missing. It's a different kind of crazy, from the "I just dun give a fuk" crazy.

I was referring to getting a transfer fee after his time with us.

So a players with bag-loads of potential but clearly not arsed about the game....

hmm...

assuming he doesnt go fucking nuts and maintains his average goal return he is still an option, I dont think his work ethic will go down very well on the Kop however.

It would be a rather nice test of our young managers motivational abilities mind you, If Brendan can get that lad to bother then we will have firm evidence of a great manager.

I'm with Modo on this. At this point Super Mario is a pretty appealing option. There is no one else who is realistically available. Ryan is also bang on in his last bird at the bar analogy. Sometimes though a player and club fit and good things happen. It's a flip of the coin in my opinion when it comes to Balotelli but it could be glorious.

It could just be a tactic to push through another deal. Hopefully that's it. But if it goes ahead, then so long as the contract contains some sensible clauses relating to conduct (and if any club ought to have learnt about that, it's us), then it won't be too much of a gamble. He strikes me as a player who IS maturing, albeit not as rapidly as one would wish, and his talent is beyond doubt, so let's see.
