As we know it kicks off this weekend, with the first round of fixtures being :

England v. Italy

Ireland v. France

Scotland v. Wales

Anyone care to make predictions ?

Paddypower has the following odds for competition winner, and after last year you would have to agree that Wales are going to be the favourites but I'm not sure if they are anything close to being a sure thing.

Championship Winner 2009
Wales 2 - 1
Ireland 3 - 1
France 3 - 1
England 4 - 1
Scotland 12 - 1
Italy 66 - 1

Hahaha, I've just seen your title.

I think England'll beat Italy (shock horror!), Ireland'll do France, & Wales'll do Scotland. In fact I'm fairly sure on all of the above.

England 25 - Italy 15

Ireland 23 - France 18

Scotland 13 - Wales 28

No Grand Slam.

Between the Irish, Welsh and French
England and Italy fighting it out to avoid the wooden spoon.

I honestly don't know what to expect from France, Ireland or England in this tournament.

We've stuck with O'Driscoll as captain, something I'm not particularly keen on because I'm not sure he can still be a difference maker at 13. At 12 fine, but he hasn't got the pace to play wider. Strangely he has Paddy Wallace inside him, which gives us two centres who'll probably struggle to break the gain line with ball in hand so it'll make it difficult for us to cut through the French defence.

Ferris gets the nod at 6 ahead of Leamy (who just might be the best backrower in the Championship not to be starting this weekend.), but Ferris deserves his jersey and I like his abrasive and direct style of play.

I'm not. England and Ireland yes, but Scotland are the value bet, especially at Murrayfield.

Leave it out JJ 🙂.

I know we've only won there twice in 11 attempts but were certs for that game.

Final day decider between Ireland and Wales and hopefully (finally) an Irish victory (I suppose the Grand Slam would be too much to hope for).

Just noticed, Liverpool v Scum followed by Scotland v Ireland on March 14th - I can feel my hangover already.

Not looking forward to watching the England v Italy game having seen the sides selected.

Mauro Bergamasco at SH for Italy making effectively a 4 man back row.
Andy Foode (sic) at OH for England meaning England are intent on playing a 10 man 'kick and clap' game.

Wales should win in Scotland, I was wary until I saw that Murray and Hines are both out and for some strange reason Hadden hasn't picked Thom Evans in his XXII. Will be interesting to see whether Henson overcomes his calf strain and I *really* hope that Gatland has been doing a lot of training on out Lineout in training this week.
Going to be freezing my arse off at Murrayfield on Sunday.

France should beat Ireland to be honest.

Care out injured and Ellis in for England.
I look forward to seeing him trying his borderline offside chopsing/pushing/hacking trick on Bergamasco on Saturday.

Could get tasty!

I usually look forward to watching nearly all of the six nations game, but England v Italy has the potential to be one of the most boring games ever.

I dont know, Italy are getting better each year and i think this year will give a poor england a good game.

I don't think the Irish are in with a shout either for the title, its going to come down to Wales and France.

Of course, either the English or Irish could find some form, but they're both in transition.

Your lot won't win it! And neither will mine.

I think England have the potential to finish bottom this year, but will probably pull an unexpected win out of the hat to avoid the wooden spoon. I have a feeling we'll lose to Scotland and/or Italy but beat either France or Wales.

Wales are deservedly favourites, but the winner of this week's France-Ireland match will push them hard.

Got a ticket for tomorrow. Nice one.

*jaw drops*

As far as this weekends games are conerned I can see Italy giving England a real fright. Mainly because England are so shit as much as anything. I'd back England to win though.

Ireland v. France could go either way and is therefore a tough call. I'll go with the Emerald Isle.

I can't see past Wales in their encounter against the Scots, although Scotlad are much improved and should provide a sterner test than in recent campaigns.

As for the championship I'll go with

Wales
Ireland
France
Scotland
England
Italy

Ross will your lot see of the Frogs tomorrow? I know they don't usually travel to well, but I have no idea about the state of Oirish rugby.

It would just make a nice treble, England, Wales (should beat the Sweaties) and Ireland.

So will they win? At about 1.6 they are expected to on Betfair.

I wouldn't put any money on Ireland Vantage.

I just don't know how good we're going to be, same goes for the French. We don't have a good record against them.

EDIT: It's not that I don't think we can beat them, it's simply too close to call.

England are crusing.

They aren't doing anything spectacular, simply defending reasonably well and taking advantage of Italian errors. The Bergamasco experiment isn't working.

We're rubbish up front though - giving away far too many penalties. Luckily for us, Italy are toothless and error-prone themselves.

Very enjoyable game that (Well done the Irish).

Not a bad sidestep for a 18 stone lump either.

I did tell you to watch out for him.

Man of the Match today and it's great to see his continued development.
