The Ashley Young thread

Status
Not open for further replies.
He only has a year left on his contract and isn't signing a new one appaz.

You can see he's getting a bit of shit from Arse fans about it on twitter and I saw he lashed out Rooney-style at one of them at least.

I would imagine he's being bought for central midfield more than the wing.

I thought the Mancs had shitloads of debt on them or something.
Doesn't look like it 🙁

If they end up with De Gea, Jones, Young and Nasri i'll be gutted.

They have. Now they'll have more.

SSN reporting Young's reps are in talks with Utd
And apperantly they've already had talks with us. He'll go there though..

Mirror running with a story saying (C)Ashley Young is going to Utd and will earn 130k/week on a 5 year contact (total £34M).

Those would be brilliant signings. Exactly the sort of players they need to replace Van der sar, Ferdinand, Giggs and Scholes.

I would have been disappointed that Scum had snapped up Ashley Young, but I discover from this thread that he is actually shit.

That's a relief! I was labouring under the misapprehension that he was a great player.

What a stupid tosser Fergie is! 😉

De Gea is an unknown quantity in the Prem and Jones is young and inexperienced.

But they're among the top young talents in the positions they play in. The distinct advantage of signing those sort of players is that they secure a position long term if they turn out to be good, and still have significant resale value if they don't.

Which is the transfer strategy I really hope we will be adopting, rather than going after the likes of Dann, Adam or Downing.

I think Young is shite meself
yup. overrated

I don't see how you say that. He has elements of inconsistency but his production as an attacking player in a mid-table side has generally been excellent. I fear the Mancs will get him to reach his full potential. There is obvious talent and whiskey nose has a knack of getting the best out of such players.

Easy he can't cross a ball ergo he's shite

Crossing isn't the be all and end all for a winger, at least in the way most teams are set up these days. And he isn't half as bad a crosser as you make him out be.

If he does join the Mancs, I'm happy to take people on a bet that he'll be among the more productive attacking players in the league next season.

if they lose nani and gain young, they'll be much worse for it

young has pace but no brain. Hes ball hungry and a bit selfish

Well I am more than happy to accept correction by more knowledgeable people than myself. I will celebrate as United, handicapped by the useless Ashley Young, plunge further and further towards the relegation zone. 🙂

Nani wasn't too different a while ago either.

Yep, just like Valencia did. That's just sucking up the media hype that surrounds the scum. For example, everyone goes on about how well the likes of Valencia has done since he went there when, in reality, he's been no more than average and was in fact completely embarrassing in the CL final. Ashley Young is very much overrated he has talent yes but just not as much as people are making out

difference being nani was younger and just arrived in a new league where he wasn't the superstar. will united want to drive that out of young over 2-3 years so he's 29?

Except Young's production for Villa over the last four seasons is comparable to Nani's production for United over the last two. Chances are that Young will improve upon that production in a better side.

Not that I care, I hope he fails miserably. But I don't think he will.

young won't be taking free kicks and shit i'd imagine, so assists will decrease and EVERYTHING won't go through him, like it did for villa

I think Young is overrated, but that is mainly in his head. He rarely seems to have the appetite to shine save for fits and starts whic is why he's so patchy and goes missing so often. NOw that he's got his dream fucking move, it's up to him now.

I hope he flops badly.

15 million for Young is certainly better value than 16 million and 20 millon for Jones and Henderson anyway.

ASHLEY YOUNG will bag £33.8MILLION in wages by moving to Manchester United.

The 25-year-old England winger will fly to Las Vegas to seal a £20m switch from Aston Villa on Friday.

It will take United's summer transfer spending towards the £40m mark.

Young will put pen to paper on a five-year deal, which will double his money to £130,000 a week plus bonuses.

Only Wayne Rooney earns more at Old Trafford.

Young turned down a 25 per cent Villa pay rise and also snubbed Liverpool, having been promised the chance to succeed Ryan Giggs on United's left flank.

A club statement on Thursday afternoon read: “Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement with Aston Villa for the transfer of Ashley Young.

The player passed a medical in Manchester this week and has agreed a five-year contract.”

Young, who began his professional career at Watford before moving to Villa Park in January 2007, made 193 appearances for the Birmingham side and scored 30 goals. He's also renowned as a chief creator: in the last five Premier League seasons, only Cesc Fabregas provided more assists for his team-mates.

In an exclusive interview with MUTV, to be aired on Thursday evening at 18:30 BST, Young admitted he will miss the Midlands club, but explained "the opportunity to come and play for one of the biggest clubs in the world is one I couldn't turn down".

"It's a chance to... hopefully become part of the history by helping to win the 20th title." he said. "It's a prospect I always looked at from being a child: to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world."

Really impressive that seeing as he's only been in the Premier League 4 years. Ergo, it's probably bollocks

Is it 20 million?

No confirmed figure as yet.

Watford are set for a cash boost of between £800,000 and £1.5m following the sale of former Hornet Ashley Young to Manchester United.

The 25-year-old signed for Aston Villa in 2007 for a fee of £9.65m, but the Hornets included a sell-on fee in the deal.

The Vicarage Road club can now expect to receive 15 per cent of the profit, above £9.65m, Villa make on the England international.

With the exact figure yet to be confirmed, it is unclear exactly how much Watford can expect to receive from the deal.

The fee reported ranges from £15m to £20m. If United pay £15m for Young's services, Watford will receive £802,500 from the deal.

A figure of £17m would see the Hornets net £1,102,500 while a £20m deal would see the club scoop £1,552,500.

Young, who has made 15 appearances for his country and scored in the recent 2-2 draw with Switzerland, has signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford.

He made his senior debut for Watford at the age of 18 and was a star performer in the club's promotion to the Premier League.
