Brandt signed a new contract extension and wants to stay at Bayer and develop further. He would have been another good candidate.

We also need a good backup for Firminho. Not sure Ings is there yet. Solanke needs a year or two of loan. The players you mentioned will provide excellent backup and competition for the other two spots + Coutinho role. Werner would be ideal as a Firminho backup but he is too good to agree to challenge from the bench.

If a player like Werner goes to Barca, Real, PSG or maybe even City then they know they are going to have to challenge for a starting slot and likely spend a lot (most perhaps) of their time on the bench. If they like what they see at Liverpool (and a CL final/win and PL 2nd/3rd plus Klopp/Salah/Keita/Mane/Firmino/VvD etc) should put us on the map again) they know they could easily see a lot more game time and we could even play all four at once (see Coutinho).

I'd like to see Werner join and we are becoming a VERY attractive option for a lot of very very good players, not of course up there, as a draw, with Barca/Real, but a very good option nonetheless.

2. He isn't exactly a young player with potential to grow further. He turns 26 this year - therefore is pretty much in his prime.
3. Despite being in his prime, and supposedly having the best season of his career, he's managed just 7 goals this season. That's not the output I want from a player who should challenge our amazing 3.

I think Zaha is a solid player, but I'd want someone with more potential.

United have Martial and Rashford. City have Sane and Sterling.

That's the calibre of young talent we need to be trying to add.

Bailey, Pavon, Pulisic etc fit the bill.

No way, Klopp just believes the team should share the credit. He doesn't like ANY individual being singled out.

There's no doubt he was convinced by the scouting team to sign him though.

Speaking in November, Klopp credited Fallows and Hunter with playing key roles in the decision to sign Mo Salah from Roma last summer.
“The scouting department was really behind me, and wanted to do it even earlier so that nobody could jump in!” he said.
“We were sure he can help us. Michael Edwards, Dave Fallows and Barry [Hunter], they were really in my ear and were on it: ‘Come on, come on, Mo Salah, he’s the solution!'”

That's not all he does, i've noticed.
He's actually very happy when journos praise players, but he makes a point to call out the good work of players who haven't received the recognition.

He did it over the weekend (or maybe Wed) too ; the journos spoke about Salah and also how incredible TAA was and was the MOTM.
He agreed and also called out Ox's performance and he even said that he could be MOTM too.

Yeah, he always switches the emphasis on to other members of the team.

He wants them to be thought of a team not 10 players & a couple of individuals.

That obviously plays into his thinking about rotating or swapping players, & must help them too, cos front three aside, & it seems like it's very straightforward to swap out players, even for those of lesser ability, & yet still play the same game.
