The Premier League

With seemingly three quarters of the teams currently playing cautious and unattractive football with a significant focus on set pieces, how long before this affects the attraction of what is regarded as the best league in the world?

Will viewing figures start to drop followed by TV money? Will good players choose to leave whilst others decide not to join a PL team in the first place?

Or will this unpopular playing trend prove to be short lived?

I was saying this to my mate watching the game last night. This is the "Guardiolafication" of the Premier League, and long-term people will turn off.
It's not just LFC that needs Klopp back.

It's a proper grim watch. And it's more expensive than ever to view on TV and in the ground. People will continue to turn off/turn to dodgy sticks the more this continues, but it doesn't really seem to be having an effect on the money coming into the game. I think it will just be one of those things that is cycled out in a few years. It's a painful watch until that happens though.

It’s not just PL. The whole of football is a bore currently. International football ruined with tournaments expanded to saturations levels close to making qualifying irrelevant, Champion league similar route with extra games negating somewhat the exciting knock out rounds as there is a level of fatigue. In fact, caught a bit of the AFCON and that is a lot more exciting than anything seen over last year.

would we be talking about this if

a) we weren’t absolutely shite and not competitive
b) mostly old cunts who are jaded in terms of football and have a load of other distractions

personally i’ve been falling out of love with it for much longer than this season but the youngsters probably still love it and watch every game they can?

i do agree that it’s shite and oversaturated though right now but i can’t tell if that’s actually a problem or i’ve fallen right out of the target demographic

There might be an element of a) and b) definitely. But it is objectively shit to watch now, and it seems to be the common consensus. Everyone is playing Stokeball and it is 100% oversaturated. That does lead to a decrease in the product. Throw in VAR as well. It's the worst period of football I recall ever seeing in my lifetime.

I think the quantification of football combined with load is even more to blame. Quotas make for factories.
