We’ve matches Bob’s wonderful team of the 80’s record of unbeaten in 25 games in all comps.

How high does it rate on club achievements?

How long can it last?

Can we start to dream of multiple trophies this season or even an unbeaten season?

On our day we are a match for anyone.

Mods can you put the children to bed?

We’ve matched an unbeaten run that stretched back 40 years and people are crying about jinx

FFS.

To answer your first question, it feels meh. Only because we seem to be dropping massive points from winning positions. The league is full of shite. And we have shitty league cup fixtures with completely changed sides. It’s gone under the radar because it’s a bit meh.

So not highly at all.

It’s literally the best and most competitive league in the world and by some distance now.
English sides are dominating both the CL and the Europa League and I’ve no doubt Spurs under Conte will win the conference cup or whatever it is.
It’s literally the most Competitive the league has ever been.

If it’s so competitive why are talking about winners closing in on 100 points?
Norwich
Burnley
Newcastle
Watford
Leeds
Villa
Southampton
Palace
Everton
Even Arsenal and Spurs

All absolutely dross.

Going that many games unbeaten is obviously good, but I can't get too excited about it. That may be because it is split over the end and the start of 2 seasons. We scraped third place last season and we are not even top of the table at the moment

Like Ole, I couldnt care less.

If we don't win this season, no one will remember an unbeaten streak.

If we do beat City and Chelsea to the toyle, then it would be amazing regardless of how we did it.

I'd say, having watched both era's that it's much harder now to rack up an unbeaten run. All things progress and teams outside the top 4/6 are more competitive. Got West Ham up there, Leicester. Brighton even. Not undermining Bob's day but now there's so much more at stake.

More money coming in through Newcastle. Teams like Spurs won't tolerate being out of top 4. Everton as well. It's all high drama. Can't take anything for granted, no easy games. While in Bob's day the games were more physical but more predictable.

We won the league 7 times in the 80's..not knocking it, it wasn't easy but now it's a battle even to stay in top 4.

Now compare them to the also rans in the other European leagues, mate...

Hate to side with Pat 😉 but not sure where you're getting this from - This league is incredibly competitive: Crystal Palace just beat City, away. Brighton should have done us. Brentford should have gotten something against the Chavs last week, etc... There are very, very few easy games anywhere, anymore. Compare this to any other European leagues, where I can't even name most teams beyond the top 3 or 4 in each country.

Don't think it's an exaggeration to say that, possibly Bayern Munich aside, the top three teams in England are the most feared teams in the world. And 4th to maybe 9th or 10th would be favourites for those other European tin pot trophies.

And I don't think too many people are predicting a 100 point champion this season...Norwich, Newcastle and Burnely aside, It's absolutely NOT a shite league anymore.

It isn’t competitive. The current holders have 3 out of the last 4 titles. From my list I’d expect us to get 50+ points. That’s not competitive.

There will always be exceptions (just like Bayern losing 5-0 the other week) but most of the time the dross get beat by those who are top 3 or 4. Even spurs got spanked by a shite Man U team.

I doubt we will get 100 points this season but you will have 3 sides exceeding 75. That’s not competitive.

What are you looking for..? All 20 teams within a few points of each other at the end? There are three world-class teams, and half a dozen strong, next level teams in it. You can't say that about any other league out there. If this league's not competitive, what the feck do you call every other league in Europe?

I’d like people to stop this romantic notion the league is competitive. It’s one of these lazy sky terms which has stuck. It may be more competitive than other major leagues but it’s not actually competitive.

Football in general has not been competitive for decades. If you look at the semi-final lineups of international tournaments, a majority of them are from the same pool. Premier league might be better than La Liga or Bundesliga or Lique 1, but in terms of actual competitiveness, it is still very poor.

I get where you're both coming from, but can you define what you'd need to se, to call it competitive, or point to a more competitive top league? Genuinely, I don't know what you're hoping to see, to deem it competitive...

No top league, anywhere, has more than a few teams that can realistically win the league each season, and then a bunch of also-rans. I'd wager that one of the three teams who will likely fight for the title will also win the European Cup... That's a tough league. IMO. Not in yours, obviously.

Difficult to define. But we are an incredibly successful club, storied history, huge fanbase all over the world, and a rich club compared to most. But for us to win the league, we had to get an all time great manager, Barcelona have a major brain fart, assemble a crack DOF and scouts, pretty much get every decision right for like 4 years, and get lucky with injuries. The chances of all this occurring again especially post Klopp is very low. It shouldnt be this hard.

I agree with you that in most leagues, in each season there is only a select set of teams which can potentially win the league. But the problem with football is that the select set of teams remain the same year in year out.

It is not just winning the league. Qualifying for the CL is also a closed shop for most clubs unless they luck into a super rich owner. In a somewhat fair competition, it should be possible for a well run club to gradually move up the table and qualify for CL and then build on it and win the league. Nowadays, if you are a well run club like Brighton, appoint a good manager, proper scouting, the maximum you can hope for is 6-8 in most seasons.

Look at US sports. we had Milwaukee, Kansas City, Braves win trophies in recent times.

A bit tough on Palace (who've had the toughest starting schedule) and Southampton!
