* Really difficult to swallow how poor we were. I can barely remember a 50/50 ball we won in the first 80 minutes, or 3 passes strung in a row etc. We were just horrible. This is the worst we've performed, it seems, since we fired Hodgson. I don't know who's to blame for this - Kenny or the players - but it cannot happen again.

* I was happy we signed Adam, but I'm starting to doubt he's anything more than a squad player. Small Fish/Big pond player perhaps ... hope he proves me wrong.

* I've never been his biggest fan, but Dirt Kuyt should not be sitting out because of Andy Carroll's fee or Jordan Henderson. He has a fantastic understanding with Suarez, and can contribute more in games like these than either of those players.

* Tough to judge out defense today when they didn't have any cover whatsoever from the midfield.

I hope the team is as shaken by this result as the fans are ...

its a one off crazy game that we'll of forgot about by the end of the season..
 
Kenny has to take a lot of the blame. Skittles was getting murdered and despite being played out of position he wasn't being protected enough. Flanno is back from Injury, so maybe he wasn't fit enough to start, but Dirk would have offered more protection and he could have attempted to play someone else there earlier i.e. Carra.

Our midfield was crap but its hard to criticise them too much because Adam's stupidity left us short. Carrol and Suarez were shit but they had no service.
 
-Skrtel is not a right back despite a few decent performances in that position prior to today.
-Coates is a replacement for Agger the papermache man, not Carra.
-Lucas and Adam are not strong enough of a central pairing.
-Suarez will get sent off some game soon
-Carroll is not as bad as some people make out but I am doubtful if he will ever be truly good enough
 
Don't panic everyone, we've got shitloads of creative cover in central midfield to compensate for Adam's absence. Oh.

As Ive already said, its a bit pointless as we played with 10 and 9 men for large parts of the game.

Skrtrl was a wrong choice though obvs. And the henderson on the left was also wrong.

I don't know why Kenny did it, and then spoke about it in the media.

I'm disappointed with the way Agger and Adam played in this game. They need to pull their finger out.

Skittles was a poor choice for right back in this game, and the outcome was expected. But we were limited. Flanagan would have been a marginally better choice, but we don't know what they are doing in training to see how Flanno is reacting mentally to the bad season opener he had. Last season, he was pretty good at times. I'm pretty sure i can unearth a thread full of praise for Flanagan. This season everyone seems to have turned on him after one bad game in the first game of the season.

Tactically..we made a few mistakes. The midfield provided very little support to the defense, and we perhaps needed Kuyt to play on the right to support whoever we chose to play as a right back considering we were down to third choice in that position and we were up against one of the better left side attackers in the premiership. We needed our midfielders to press effectively but they couldn't in the first 30 minutes or so and our defenders looked poor as a result....but after we went a man down the result was quite obvious, so there is no point in analyzing this game and tactics too much.

I'll be honest Wiz, i think the whole reaction from EVERYONE is a bit laughable.
Its the first game this season that weve played badly in.
We didnt start well (we often dont) and conceeded an early goal. We were creeping back into the game (Suarez dissallowed etc) and Adam got sent off. Thats all she wrote. We were on a hiding to nothing then against a Spurs side determined to put on a show after the United mess.
We didnt keep the ball well, because they had more players.
They picked us apart, because they had more players.
Our TWO right backs are injured so we played a CB against Modric and Bale.....and they had more players.
It got worse and we lost another player. Then they ran riot.

If you lose a player against a top team with a quarter of the game gone, more often than not you lose the game.
We didnt play well, they did (with their extra players) and the picking of the carcass is a bit wanky.
Why was Carroll at RM?!?? Because we had 10 men
Why was Downing at RM!? He played there all season for Villa.
Why was Skrtel at RB!? Because its him or a child against Bale and Modric.

Im not happy we lost 4-0 obviously but if we had 11 men we wouldnt have. Its difficult to know would we have improved and got back into it given we were never given the chance.
But yeah Sack Kenny, Sell Carroll, Downing etc
 
Fact is, we were SO bad it's actually easy to write this one off put it behind us and move on. A bit like when the Mancs lost 5-0 at Newcastle or 6-2 or whatever the hell it was at Southampton. I'd actually be more worried if we were just average and lost 1 or 2 nil. We won't play that badly again this season. We won't have two players sent off in the same game again this season. Hopefully we won't get that ref again this season. And most of all, next time we play in the league, Stevie will be on the pitch. Cheer up fellas.

Kuyt should start.
Henderson is a waste of space so far.
Carroll is not good at all- enter Bellamy.
Our defence can only get better.
Agger is a joke.

we were on our way to being two goals down quite comfortably -- with eleven men -- hence why so many players got carded under the pressure.
 
We're now in stage 2 of the season. That the one where most of the posters deny anything is wrong and call the others kneejerkers, armchair fans, etc..

I've decided to skip through all this and go to stage one of the next cycle, so I'd just like to say that our new manager is exactly what we need now going into the new season. All that pass and move stuff was really a bit naive and what we need in this era is a tactically aware manager who can make us hard to beat. There's no point in entertaining one week if you're over-run the following week. I'm really excited by all these exotic signings we've made because clearly although there is a role for British players, you just can't compete without some top level foreigners in key places in the team. I think this is gonna be our year lads.
