I'm pretty certain that Lucas is going to be starting ... although I can certainly see many matches where we may not even start with a recognised DM (if you can call Lucas that). Last season we were attacking in numbers with the defence high up the pitch so there was no disconnect. Maybe in those situations you hardly need a DM because your defensive line is so high. I'd like to see a pacey CB brought in though.

Starting the season with most of what we have isn't the worst thing in the World, on paper at least it's capable of beating most of the Premiership, whoever we buy will need bedding in anyway.

Not sure it would be a massive achievement but it certainly should be a realistic expectation.
I don't expect to win the league next season but I would be disappointed if we spend the kind of money we are spending and can't break back into the top 4.

I agree, selling Meireles would be a big mistake. Id like to see him play with Gerrard in the middle.

Paying 35M or 16M for Carroll and Henderson makes me wonder why the yanks are that worried to pay the likes of Cole, Kuyt and jovanovic 90K a week

When i think about how great it is to have Kenny back i start to fancy it.
If we can bring in a real world class attacker of Suarez quality maybe but I think without we are looking a bit short on genuine class, all be it with a stronger and very solid squad , if all these transfers go through as expected.
Kenny might just work his magic...I fancy city to fall apart bitter arguments and sackings this season. Hopefully this is a season too soon for that Bobby Robson arse licking little ginger kid twat Vilas boas, ferguson continues his headstrong walk toward dementia, and Arsenal do what they always do.

A good manager can only draw on the talent at his disposal, however a bad manager can make a team play 25 percent below their potential. I think someone famous said that.

My point remains, I just cant see the coherence in our owners policy...
Its understandable you want to get rid of your big earners, especially if they're not playing. Its not to pay a fortune for Carroll, Henderson, Adam and so on

my opinion hasn't changed, I think we can and will challenge for top 4. I think the new signings will help up better compete away from home, downing and henderson to provide width and carroll to hold up the ball. once in a top 4 position we'll be in a better position to attract top talent which will give us a better chance of challenging for the league.
only the acquisition of several truly quality players would give me the confidence to believe we'd challenge for the league, the players we've purchased are giving us balance and depth to challenge for top 4 and no more.
