So a few months ago I thought it would be interesting to trace back my family and see how far I can go. It's pretty cool actually and I'd recommend anyone to have a go. All you need is your parents date of birth or even better your grandparents. Go to ancestry.co.uk and give it a whirl.
I tracked my mums side back to the mid 18th century which is nuts. My great grandmother worked for the White Star line in Liverpool at the time of Titanic. There are all kinds of little stories that pop up like military records and tales of work house woe etc. Still as a source of information the UK kept really detailed files which can all be accessed free.
I feel a little bad that in the 2001 census I said I was a private detective and my religion was Jedi Knight! I guess it might make one of my ancestors giggle if they ever looked me up in the future. 🙂
