My other footballing love and my local team. Supported them ever since Gary Williams saved them from relegation from the then Division 4 in the mid Eighties

Been flying high most of the season, had a bit of a wobble of late. They have struggled with injuries and seemed to have lost a bit of fire power. Jake Cassidy going back to Woves I think really affected them. However they are still there or thereabouts in the playoffs positions a couple of points behind automatic promotion.

Have they enough in the fire to gain promotion? I think what Ronnie Moore has done on the budget he has with declining Gate revenue compared to other big wigs in the Division is bordering on the quite remarkable.

Thoughts ?

So it seems Tranmere further hit the Self Destruct button today..

Lost 3-0 away to MK Dons.. We are just outside the Play Offs and don't look like entering back into the anytime soon..

We are level on points with the Two teams above us, however they both have 2 games in hand over us..

So not looking good..

A slight change in fortune for the Rovers..

A commanding 3-1 win at home has put them right back in the mix..

Tranmeres problem of late is stringing a consistant run of wins together.. If they can do that in the remaining 6 games, they certainly have a chance..

I'd love to see Tranmere go up BUT I'm afraid I can't see it. Ronnie Moore has done an unbelieveable job keeping them in the promotion mix all season having spent nothing (apart from some shrewd loans) but I think they're the weakest team in the top 8 at present.

Having lost Wallace and Robinson to injury the midfield lacks a bit of everything; it's a bog standard League 1 midfield with no great creativity (apart from Bakayoko), the forward line is very average and defensively (apart from Gibson) there's not a lot to suggest promotion can be achieved.

The terrible pitch at Prenton has actually helped them in some games as Tranmere have adapted well to it and play accordingly whereas some teams still come and try and play through the midfield.

I have a feeling that Sheffield United will be too strong for Tranmere on Friday and having lookd at their last 6 fixtures I can't see where they can get the necessary points from............................

Sheffield United (H)......0 points
Portsmouth (A)......1 point
Doncaster (A)......0 points
Hartlepool (H)......3 points
Preston (A)........1 point
Bournemouth (H) 1 point

I hope I'm wrong.

Sheffield UTD & Doncaster are definitley nil points if the can accumulate 10 out of the rest they might just make the play offs.. Having said that if they finish in the top 8 they have still had a good season.. Although it could of been so much more given how they started it..

Losing Robinson I agree is a great loss for them, he has been one of the key players this season.. I still think losing Jake Cassiday back to Wolves was the biggest loss of them all.. They have never really replaced him upfront.

Anything can happen in the run-in; if Tranmere can somehow get 3 more points than I've suggested before their final game against Bournemouth AND if Bournemouth are already promoted by then, then Tranmere could beat them.

I agree about Cassidy because Akpa Akpro is very wasteful and Sidibe's legs have gone.

I suspect Doncaster will top the league as they have a 5 point lead and most of their best players are fit and available. Bournemouth couldn't have picked an easier run-in and could easily take maximum points from their last 6 games.

I reckon Doncaster & Bournemouth for automatic with Swindon, Sheffield United, Brentford and either Tranmere or Yeovil filling the play off positions.
