Worth a cheeky bid... ?

Can't believe he is still at boro...

Premiership player.. without a doubt...

14 goals & 9 assists last season

Can play anywhere upfront, including the wing... Better option than Voronin imho

got to be worth a punt...

Those stats are wrong. He got 8 goals in all comps. No idea about assists. That said, I do rate him as a decent player.

Think my stats are for club and country...

8 goals and 5 assists... for boro... As a player I think he would thrive in a team surrounded by good players.. ala Benayoun..

Just really surprises me he is still at boro... he has got be leaving them before the start of the season.. surely...

I think he has said he is going to stay with Boro.

nah

No- Southgate said, he can't believe no-one has come in yet, but he doubts he'll be a Boro player at the start of the season.

The price quoted a few months ago was around £9M, with Villa also interested, which is much too much.

He'd be alright, I guess, but I don't see what he brings to the side that Yossi doesn't.

Good signing for a mid-table side. We should be looking for more accomplished players.

I'd agree with that summary if we were considering him for a regular first team spot, but we wouldn't be doing that. We're looking for someone to be Torres' deputy first and foremost, though good enough to come in and do a job in other attacking positions too if needed. The value added that he'd bring over and above Yossi is experience of playing up front as opposed to attacking from midfield. I'd be quite happy with him at the right price.

Tuncay is one of the last people I'd see as a deputy for Fernando Torres.

One is 6 foot 2 tall, physical, lightening quick, and can play up front on his own. The other is Tuncay.

I just don't see him as a striker at all.

To be fair how many fitting your description are there available and willing to be a squad player?

He's made a decent enough fist of it for Boro. Nominally he's had Alves or Mido playing up there with him, but in practice that left him doing it pretty much on his own. Certainly he's a different physical type from Torres, but that hasn't stopped him causing Prem defences (ours included) a lot of grief as a striker, even in what was mostly a losing side.

Anyone who's over 5 foot 7.

If we needed an attacking spot filling then I wouldn't be against it, per se, but he's not a significant upgrade on Riera, he's very similar to Yossi, he can't lead the line like Torres can, and he's not as cheap as we first thought.

And who says he is ready to be a squad player?

He's a talented player but I don't want him here, especially for the price touted.

I'd rather have had Bent for 12M than Tuncay for 9.

Oh I do agree about the price, I'd pay max £5m for him.

Don't know if he is ready to be a squad player but I'm assuming he would jump at a chance to join us even in smaller role than he would get at some smaller club.

I do like him though and think he could do a decent job even if he isn't the biggest or most physical player.

Tuncay is a player that plays almost exactly the same way as Vornonin does.

Except Tuncay does his stuff better and cleaner than Voronin - if Rafa is after that type of player then offload Voronin and get Tuncay in.

?

Tuncay is not short. He must be around 6ft.

Anyways, this guy was my go-to option for "cheap versatile squaddie" in all, what must be now seen as incredibly optimistic, transfer threads. I wouldn't have him as a backup for Torres either but he can fulfil a number of roles well and has proven he can make an impact in the Premiership.

Had we have been a little more active in the transfer market we may have ended up with an opening for him in the squad and for the right price (not 9M), he'd have been a good buy. As things stand, I agree that we seem a little bit overloaded in the attacking squaddies department without enough top quality.

i've been going on about him for a while now as a decent affordable striker who could also, at a push, play across the front three. If he comes chepa then we should be sniffing around - he is certainly an improvement on ngog and voronin

my points exactly...

If we can off load Voronin.. we certainly should go for him... he would be a vast improvement, be a very useful squad player

Anyone know what happened about Hull supposedly being interested about taking Voronin on loan for the season?

Never will happen.. I think Benitez will only consider selling him...

Agree with most of that Keniget.

I would only go for him if he was easy to sign and cheapish. I was hoping we would replace Voronin with someone like him this summer but for the prices quoted I would stay well clear.
