Gakpo playing like he's a nailed on starter. Konate already in Madrid. Macca massively unfit. Isak unfit and goes missing. Wirtz tried today but still wasn't great.
Add in Ali injured, Ekitike injured, it's shaped up to be an awful night.

My only counter to that is play Konate enough so that he fucks his ligaments, THEN play gomez.

Shit pitch. Awful referee. Soft pen. Allowed the game to devolve into time wasting. Didn't book Torreira for about 10 fouls.
With all that said, our new signings look wank. Konate looks awful without TAA alongside him. We simply have no ability playing the ball out the back right now, or between the lines.
The team looks unbalanced.
If I'm Slot, I'm tempted now to simply drop Wirtz and go back to the midfield that won the title last year.
The issue I see is Kerkez/Bradley look, on the ball, technically worse than TAA/Robbo. So I'm not sure how he gets around this. It was supposed be Wirtz, but he's shown no ability to cope with the physical demands on the PL, and our players seem incapable of finding him between the lines on the half turn.

I'll be pleased with top 4 if we show progress but quite frankly I don't hold out much hope for either. I don't believe Slott will be in charge next season tbh.... But even as I say that I have said we should judge after 10(prem) games.... Will things look different in 4 games?
I think this was always going to happen. Its hard to rebuild a team. I'm not sure why I'm supposed to think it's not just because we spent however much. We shouldnt have had to spend that much all at once, specifically so that we weren't in this position of trying to figure it all out at once.
I also think the numbers are only eye watering and suggest real quality if you don't have a memory or haven't been to a grocery shop.

WTF were some of those players doing?! Konate was fucking abysmal again - from start to finish. Jones started well then disappeared. Macca giving the ball away with a simple 10m pass straight to their player.
We seem unable to get the ball from midfield to our attacking players. Ekitike looked good but then Isak left was totally isolated. Salah did fuck all except give the ball away in midfield (WTF was he doing there - we needed width).

The result isn't all that important, as we'll ultimately be fine in Europe for the group stage. But the degradation of already mediocre performances is certainly worrying.
We're going backwards and sideways.... Can't remember when we last played like that.... Oh yeah it was Saturday!
You know the assumption was made by me and many this summer that in signing all these new players, Slot would actually have a plan for how we'd play this season. It's concerning that with every game that passes, I'm less confident in this thought.
Selling Diaz was my one big grip this summer, and whist I'm not saying he magically fixes everything, considering the embarrassing situation on our left flank is right now, not keeping him or replacing him effectively is looking like dreadful business.
Still this isn't terminal, but we need to start looking like an effective football team ASAP, Slot needs to prove his worth and ability now.
