Post Match UCL Olympic Marseille (A) 0-3 January 21st 20:00

So Salah played 6 games (90 and 120 mins) in 26 days at the AFCON in Morocco, returned home and had 1 training session and yesterday covered the second most ground after Szobo away to Marseille. Wasn't his best game but you can't criticize his effort and commitment.
Hope he has a good second half of the season and can leave on a high this summer.
Slot full of praise.

Hopefully that’s the rift behind us.

A goal scoring fit Salah is exactly what we need.

Personally, I had an initial doubt whether we get a result there! This is the best team performance in UCL without a doubt. However, if we had a better two other players than the useless twin, Wirtz & Salah, the team will go all the way. I thought Kerkez was excellent, he is getting to know the other players. A bad note: Slot has still chickened out to take Salah off, who was useless as ever! I hope we can play like this on the weekend. Good luck!

Even defensively he makes a difference with his speed. Very noticeable yesterday that even though he's not the world's strongest or best tackler his pace means he gets back and in front of the attacker long enough for reinforcements to arrive.
Kyle walker stole a career with pace, so fingers crossed frimmers can emulate

That was a good performance and for once, Slot didn't sound like a dickhead post match. Normally, I'd be hopeful we're turning a corner but we've been there before after Madrid so let's see

I did not see the Burnley game, but this was a much-improved performance compared with much of what we have seen recently. They had chances, but I felt we generally controlled the game. We were less focused on simply maintaining possession and were more willing to take risks without the ball. A key part of attacking play is creating uncertainty. It does not matter how you do it, whether that is a long ball onto a target man’s 50-yard head or intricate tiki-taka football, the point is to create situations where the defence cannot predict where the ball will be in three seconds. It feels like we are starting create more of those situations a little better. Whether that comes from the bravery of the players or from tactical instruction does not really matter. The finishing needs to be sharpened up. We still need a (well-created) own-goal to get a comfortable margin. Gomez deserved his shout-out from Slot. No bad performances across the park, but Kerkez, Szobo, Frimpong, and Wirtz stood out for me.

One of the most encouraging things for me is the relationship on the pitch between Wirtz and Ekitik, which really does look to have the makings of something special. Kerkez's improvement shouldn't be a huge surprise. I've been more surprised at how average he's been, generally, to date. He's had a slow start, and his right foot will always limit him, but he's got everything in his locker to be a top-class LB for us for years. I love watching him play. I'm also leaning towards the idea that we should sign a right-back and play Frimpong forward more. He's looked solid defensively enough, but right now we need that raw pace higher up the pitch more often.
